Since the Nets just cut him, and we have an open roster spot, I say sign him up. He is a head case, but is incredible athleticism and youth makes him worth a short term gamble.  Maybe vets like KG can straighten this guy out.

Thoughts?

No thanks.  He's not good at anything except blocking shots and dunking.  He's a head case and he has no clue how to play basketball.  He's a horrible defensive player, a horrible offensive player.  He's an athlete, not a basketball player.  If he couldn't crack the rotation of perhaps the worst team in basketball history, he's not going to help a championship team.  Scal, Shelden, and Baby are far better players.

That's alot of hate, Moiso.  Did he refuse to give you an autograph when you were a kid?

Agree, he's a bad player nowhere near ready to contribute to a NBA squad.

I don't hate him but it's pretty much a fact that if the worst team in the history of basketball cuts a player, he probably sucks.  He's no Trenton Hassell or Kris Humphries.

I'd certainly bring him in for a 10 day contract and get KG in his face -- see if it makes a difference. Much as I love our front court, it would be intreguing to imagine at least one member of the group having more than a 12 inch vertical leap.

After watching his former team last night, you can understand how he might of struggled to stay on the straigh and narrow. Is there a single leader there?

No thanks.  He is a headcase, who has had issues when he has returned to Boston to see old friends, and he simply is not a very good basketball player.

While you guys are probably correct, I could still see Danny take a flyer at him. Danny values athleticism (Marcus Banks, Ricky Davis, Gerald Green) highly, especially where the cost is not great (eg POB). More times than not he strikes out, but eventually he will get lucky.  I mean, what's ten days??

No.

He is a head case.

He has not shown to be an on the court improvement to the 6 big men the Celtics have.

Well, other than Ricky (who was not just an athlete, he was also a very skilled basketball player), most of Danny's athletic targets have been in the draft.  I agree that Danny does target athletic guys later in the draft, rather than more skilled guys who may not be able to keep up in the NBA.  I think he believes it is easier to turn an athlete into a basketball player than a basketball player into an athlete, when they are coming out of school.

However, it is different when they have shown that they simply cannot play NBA basketball.  It is one thing to project a guy coming out of college, because you don't know what will happen when they get in an NBA system with NBA coaches, but Williams has been with NBA coaches for a few years now, and if anything, he has regressed.

So while I think there is something to your theory about Danny liking to take flyers on raw, athletic players, I don't think there is much evidence of him doing it outside of the draft.

Patrick O'Bryant would be one example. Maybe the only one, and a bad one at that, given how he panned out.

Look, I get the aversion to Williams and have no problem with it. But I don't think it's accurate that he's proven he can't play.

Williams is out of the league due to his attitude, not his ability.

Darn you, you picked the one example I hoped you wouldn't!  But I look at him more as the exception that proves the rule.

Well, maybe the wording was strong, but the fact is, Williams showed time after time that he did not know how to play NBA basketball.  He is a human pogo stick, but he has no clue about things like positioning and team defense, and he is a terrible offensive player.  Yes, he would likely be getting many more calls if he did not have character issues, but the real reason he is not an NBA player is that he is nothing more than a guy who can jump.

Someone should change the thread title. Sean Williams has been available for a long time.

He's not currently unemployed only due to attitude.  And he wasn't at the end of the bench of the worst team in the league because he was being punished.  If he was in uniform, he would have played if they thought he'd help the team.
