Maybe it was just me who laughed about this, but quite possibly I am not.  So the Hornets traded Hilton Armstrong to Sacramento this week, and with every trade that goes down I am always eager to know who is going where.  So I saw that Armstrong was traded for a second round pick.  Not a big deal.  Who really cares.

Then I learned that the 2nd Round Pick was in 2016!!

I laughed out loud and said 2016!! is that nuts?? 2016!!
that is 6 NBA drafts away and we are talking about a 7th grader right now! and not even the best 7th grader! I wonder if anyone in the league has had this distinction?

I felt bad for Armstrong all at the same time because he is essentially being traded away for the most unknown of the unknowns.  Was his value that low?

Wow...

Just a nutty thought.

I think Hilton will find comfort in the fact that the team that traded him was in desperate financial trouble, and looking to unload contracts as mucn as possible. More of a reflection on the dire economic straights of the Hornets than an evaluation of his talent - sac had all the power in that negotiation, so they gave them that, and really, NO didn't want anything short term to show up on the books so they were glad to take the 2016 pick...lol...
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Yes, it happens frequently - basically in everyone of these salary dump trades. This kind of picks is merely a formality: teams can't trade players without getting anything in exchange, so these conditional 2nd round picks (normally very protected, like top-59 protected) are included. The Cs recently got one of those by trading Sam Cassell to the Kings, IIRC.

haha, they have such an advanced scouting team they already see a 7th grader who will most likely be overlooked and slip to the 2nd round.  That's just awesome!

Haha! that is great.  I wonder if every 7th grader who plays basketball in this country believes that they are that 2nd round pick OR do they believe that they are not that selection because they are too good to be a 2nd round pick??

If it were me and I was in 7th grade, I would go around telling people I was the guy who was traded for Hilton Armstrong.  Hell I would make T-Shirts and wear them around.

I almost sure that Jeff Bower has some 7th grader under his radar...

By the way, don't you think Bower and Bam Bam Bigelow can be the same person?

Hey now. My brother is a 7th grader. The kid has a pretty sweet stroke and has probably caught the eye of Jeff Bower.

Just a product of the fact that you can't trade a player for nothing ;-).  I wonder if you can do it for straight cash considerations?

Like Sacramento sends New Orleans $100 for a player?
