In the first half of tonights loss against the Hawks, Rondo was dominating the ball and the game. 17 points 6 assists in the first half alone. But as the game went along in the third quarter, there was more and more of Rondo giving the ball up and going to stand in the corner. By the fourth quarter, that was basically all he was doing, save for a few plays. Predictably, the offense stalled and was ineffective.
I don't understand why we would just go away from one of the best point guards in the game when he is having a big night. I know we have Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, but both of those guys are much better nowadays playing off of Rondo's penetration rather than running pick and rolls for those guys. To be honest, I don't wanna see more than 1 or 2 Paul Pierce isos per game unless there is a mismatch or it is in a gamewinning situation. I don't know who made the decision to go away from letting Rondo make the plays (hell, maybe it was Rondo himself) but it was a mistake.
Basically, what I'm saying is we need Rondo to be the catalyst of the offense THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE GAME. Paul and Ray are great offensive players, but unless they really have it going, they should be playing off of Rondo. That is why it was so baffling to see Rondo stand in the corner again and again while Paul dribbled it off his foot or forced up a bad shot, or Perk and Baby throw the ball away while the shot clock wound down. We have an all star point guard who is an OUTSTANDING creator. He should not be standing in the corner time and time again while we lose leads.
