Boston sends Ray Allen and JR Giddens or Bill Walker (their choice)

Toronto sends Chris Bosh and Marcus Banks.

This gives Toronto the cap flexibility they are after with two expiring deals as Ray will be unrestricted and the other two are team options. It rids them of Marcus Banks contract next year as well which gives them 4.5 mil more in free space.

It gives Boston a year to convince Bosh to resign here (if we can't get him to agree to an extension like KG did first) and give us a replacement for KG either in a couple years or sooner if he can't stay on the court. We could re-sign Ray if they choose to cut him after 30 days, or in the offseason if they don't. If not then Marquis Daniels slides into the 2 spot when he gets back. On a side note it does give us a backup pg that can actually dribble the ball up the floor under pressure.

Huh?...Toronto isn't gonna do this deal--When they could have Bynum from the Lakers.

There are at least a half-dozen teams that could give Toronto equal cap relief and a better young prospect, if that's the direction that Toronto wants to go.

why would you trade the expiring contract of Bosh for the expiring contract of Ray? Bosh is worth about 10 times as much in a sign-and-trade this summer...

So Toronto is going to give up Chris Bosh for the remainder of the season + give up the opportunity to find a better trade + give up the opportunity to try and re-sign him this summer + give up the opportunity to acquire better assets in a sign in trade?

Just so they can get out one year earlier on Marcus Banks' contract?

Am I missing something? Did the Lakers offer the Raptors Bynum and someone else who makes 5 million added in to get Bosh? Considering that Gasol plays the PF for them and Bynum is really more of a center than a PF wouldn't that just duplicate positions?

I think that the Raptors might be interested in saving 25 million in salaries (not including the extra 10 millioin they are paying since they are over the cap by that much). Then they can go out and spend that money on someone they are targeting. Maybe not, but worth exploring.

The Raptors barely have any cap space even if Chris Bosh leaves as a free agent while getting nothing in return.

They have three large contracts in Turkoglu, Bargnani and Calderon ($27.3 mmil). Two/three medium contracts in Jack, Evans and Banks ($14.53 mil). Then two more small contracts in DeRozan and Belinelli ($4.83mil). A minimum contract in Weems ($850k). A sure-fire lottery pick (let's say $2 mil) if they give up Bosh + cap holds for empty roster spots (three spots if they give up Bosh + Banks so another $1.5 mil).

That comes out as, under the Bosh + Banks trade, as around $46 million. So they'll have $5-8 million in cap space while trying to replace Chris Bosh.

As long as the Raptors have Turkoglu, Bargnani, Calderon and Jack on the books ... cap space + free agency is a difficult way forward for the Raptors.

Bosh has a player option for 17 million next year where Ray does not. If Bosh doesn't like what is out there in free agency he can choose to collect 17 million and try it again the following. Considering the cap is likely to go down another 5 to 10 million, they might be interested in looking for options. If they take some other offer out there for a young potential player, then they are just committing salary to an unknown that may or may not work out.

Not your best effort on this trade proposal EJ. This one just doesn't make sense.

I bet they would have a legit shot at getting both Camby and Ilgauskas for that money. You put those two on the Raptors and they are likely a better team than they are right now.

They lose about 6 million the following year in salary, so if you sign Big Z for a one year deal or a smaller two year deal they would be able to go and get another decent player for the following year. They are 2 years away minimum from being contenders, so I'm not sure this is such a stretch. Considering some of the nonsense on these trade boards it at least isn't out of the realm of possibilities.

Hey. It's sunday evening, I'm bored, and it was either this or a thread on how BBD looks absolutely terrible out there offensively and rotating on D since he came back. I thought this one would bring less whining!

I was just trying to figure out a way to get Bosh in here to replace KG.

I see Bosh going to the Rockets in a package like:

Houston sends Scola, Landry, Lowry and McGrady

Toronto sends Bosh, Calderon, Johnson.

Toronto could then buy out McGrady at a savings, pick up Landry's option for next year, and audition Scola and Lowry to see if they are worthy of extending. If they are they can do so, if not they have sign and trade options on them or they can renounce them and some others and have some decent cap room.

Houston is like the only team in the league willing to give up talent for Bosh without a guarantee to extend him immediately. I think something along these lines could work for both teams.

Yes that does work a little better for them, however that doesn't land Bosh in Boston. Not near as good a deal for us. :)

TP for the little more realistic effort though.

Haven't watched today's game yet. Did Baby really look that bad today?

Regarding Bosh, I honestly would prefer Boozer coming in to replace KG if KG is hurt long term than Bosh. And he might be easier to get.
