I wouldn't be surprised if Troy Murphy, Muke Dunleavy, and TJ Ford are available for just expiring contracts, so that Indiana can cut payroll and build around Granger.

Of those 3, I think Dunleavy fits our team best: I'm not a huge Ford fan, and We have a glut of players at the 4/5.

Assuming no better deals come along, would you trade Tony, Scal, Baby or Tony, Scal, Eddie for Mike Dunleavy? I'd do the first one. This would accomplish 2 things: First, Dunleavy really can play point SF, so a 2nd unit of Eddie, Daniels, Dunleavy, Sheed, Williams would be pretty good.

Second, if we can't trade our expirings for a better deal this year, Dunleavy expires next season, so we'd essentially roll our expiring 10 million over to next season. Remember, there's no real basketball advantage to letting Tony, Scal, etc. expire since there's no chance at cap space next year, unless we think that we could add a better player than dunleavy using the MLE next year (i'm skeptical, as well as leery of using the mLE because MLE contracts are usually too long).

Good proposals.  Tony is playing his role and some decent point guard minutes right now too.  Maybe I'd do it under the assumption that Tony is going to get hurt again(since he always seems to have some kind of injury).

They're all available for expirings (I think they'd be willing to pay an additional fee if someone takes Ford out off their hands).

Dunleavy is yet to show some kind of form, he's playing uninspiring ball right now. He's coming back from a very serious surgery and basically a year without playing, so I wouldn't trade for him now.

When in form, he's an excellent player offensively but a defensive hindrance. If we keep the same core, I'd rather have a different player.

Keep in mind that the Celtics can't just keep adding salaries every year. Rondo's new contract will also "replace" the current expirings. I'm not sure if they can add a Dunleavy type contract + Ray Allen new contract on the top of that.

I really hope Rondo+Ray 2009-2010 = Rondo+Ray 2010-2011.

If not, Ray is way overpaid for his market value. Then, if we're ok having 10 million in expirings this year among a bunch of scrubs, we should be ok with having one 10 million dollar valuable/useful expiring player next year.

I just can't see the Celts adding $10.5 million in salary to next year's team for a player with questionable health.  I personally like Dunleavy, but he's too big of a risk to trade for, I think.

As scoop suggested, the budget isn't unlimited; adding Dunleavy would mean we'd have to say goodbye to others players, assuming the Celts want to keep a fairly level budget.

I read Indiana has been shopping Ford for some time but can't even give him away due to his $8.5 million option he is going to exercise for next year. The Pacers might just be forced into keeping him due to his contract because nobody wants to pay him $3+ million this year and another $8.5 million next year for uninspired 2nd or 3rd PG quality play.

Of course if Indiana is really desperate to rid themselves of Ford, I'm sure Danny would be more than willing to trade Ray Allen for Granger and Ford. ;D

Dunleavy is too costly and injury prone.  no thanks.

TA is doing a fine job as is and provides defense at the 2 which is a need we currently have.  I have higher expectations of Danny to get a better return for our expiring contracts than a busted down player that may not crack the rotation if healthy.
