So Celtics fans shouldn't be supportive of the bench players? Well, I'll put it this way, then: I would hope Celtics fans would be supportive of the bench players, as they are part of the team, for good or bad.
This is where I have the problem Bakhu, why in the world does "being positive about playing time for the kids" = "supportive".

I root for them during the games, I still don't want them on the court. Injuries forced their hand, but I still don't see much value in it. That's being supportive of the Celtics in my view.

I dislike it when fans start defining what other fans should do. Everyone roots in their own way, some are pessimists, some go on message boards, and others just follow the boxscores and watch the playoffs.

OK, Fafnir ... that's how you feel, it's your opinion and your entitled to it ... but I am just as entitled to mine. I try to treat people the way I would like to be treated, that's how I was raised, and I hope that people would give me a chance to prove myself if I was on an NBA team. These guys are Celtics, and by very definition, "fan" implies support:

Fan - An ardent devotee; an enthusiast or supporter.

So why would I NOT expect "fans" tto be supportive? OK, you don't believe in that perspective, and I do, but I have a valid reason for doing so, just as you have. So are you saying a Celtic "fan" is just a partial supporter? To me, a fan supports the TEAM, not just part of it ... you have a different perception of what "fan" means, and in doing so, you're defining what a fan should do/not do as much as I am. Whatever, we can agree to disagree.

Experience is always a good thing in athletics ... for the individual AND the team, in my extremely humble and irrelevant opinion.

Rondo will probably play tomorrow night! Good to hear but I hope he isn't rushing back, he should rest if he is not totally healed.

Quote
Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo(notes) told Yahoo! Sports he expects to return to action Wednesday against Miami after missing the previous game with a hamstring injury. “I’m getting better each day with the rest I’m getting. I’m just ready to get back up there,” Rondo said. …

Also, Pierce should update his status before the team take the flight to Miami.

Good news. Rondo is a warrior and a tweaked hamstring and slightly sprained ankle can heal up in a week's time. It still might hurt but playing with little hurts, bumps and bruises are what athletes get paid for.

An infected knee is an injury that should be fully healed before coming back. I hope they err on the side of caution with Pierce.

Agreed - TP'd as well. I still hope they don't play..I really believe that if our team can play the way they played on Sat against TOR, we can beat Miami. Dwyane Wade can't beat us by himself (even though he can come awfully close).

And I'm getting a kick out of knowing that the bench is getting some extra time, even though I'd like to see more of Bill Walker.

Perk and Eddie have the flu ; Perk will travel to Miami but Eddie won't.

Pierce is likely to play in the Miami game, Rondo is a game-time decision.

Extra playing time for guys who don't cut it is simply extra playing time for guys who don't cut it. These guys, except maybe for Hudson, will be nowhere to be found when the playoffs come around.

I hope you're right, I really do ... unfortunately, NO ONE has a crystal ball, and no one can guarantee that we won't need these guys later on. That's the reality, whether we like it or not.

If we really "need" any of these guys, the Celts won't be going too far in the playoffs so it really won't matter.

  • You say when......
I'd say do not let PP rush back, not Rondo either, time to get REALLY healthy, this game means very little, this is big picture time. A bad hamstring can really turn into a serious problem. The same with a bad knee. PP had "treatment" on that knee to cause this, he had knee troubles last year, lets not push it doc.  We all know PP does not want to sit, that is the coaches job..! KG, please sit until you are 100%, or so....!

Actually as long as the medical staff clears the players to play then it really is Doc's job to use them. Now hopefully he uses them judiciously and doesn't over use them, but if the Doc's say Rondo and Pierce are good to go, they really should.
