What does everyone think of this deal?

In

Kevin Martin
Nocioni
Udrich

Out

Ray Allen
Scal
Bill Walker

I have to think that Sacramento would consider this trade. They would be dumping tons of bad salary over the next serveral years. Im sure they would have a hard time trading martin but it may be worth it to get rid of the other guys. Maybe the C's would have to throw in a 1st rounder.
The Celts would be interested becuase they would be getting a boarder line Allstar in martin that shoots lights out as well Nocioni who they have been hot for and a good bad up PG.

But the "good" salary is better then the "bad" salary.

With that extra money, can they get a player that is better then Martin?

Im not sure. What i do know is that the extra money would be huge. They would have around 24.6 million coming off the books for next season. They could sign 2 max contract players if they choose to go that route.

They already have Evans, who is really a 2, and Casspi, who is coming into his own. Furthermore, Martin is chronically injured. What makes you think he is "untouchable?" If this trade were to happen, the Kings would be way under the cap. Of course they could get a player as good or better than Martin.

I also posted a trade pretty much just like this one in the "Trade Ray Allen" thread.

this is one of those trade ideas ive had for a while.   I think in total they have 100 mil committed to those 3 players and by making the trade they are saving themselves like 70-80 mil in the future.  And since they are probably just going to build around Tyreke Evans, they might just want to dump those bad contracts along with Kevin Martin.

I think if they decide to trade Martin, it will be for more then 'cap space'.

well yeah... if Kevin Martin is healthy he's basically Ray Allen, but 8 years younger.

And Udrih and Nocioni would fill two major needs on our bench... but both make like 7 mil a year for the next 4 years.  That obviously would be the main reason Sac would do a trade like this (dump Martin).  Both those players would be perfect for a bench... but that's a ton of money to have committed for a couple role players.

True.  It's not like Sacramento is a free agent hot spot.  They would want a core piece in return.

Sac is defnitly not a FA hot spot but we have seen that change pretty quickly. Cash is king and only a select few teams have the ability to offer a max deal. They could offer 2 which is pretty attractive. They will have a lottery pick this year as well as the C's first rounder to go with Evans/Hawes/Thompson/Garcia Add two max deal guys and you have a contender for the next several years

Who wants to go to Sac that is better then Martin?  Just because you have cap space doesn't mean you are going to bring in the big FA.  (honestly, the only guys that would make sense are Bosh, Lebron or Wade.  Anyone else is either no better then Martin or older then Martin)

Now if the team was moved to Las Vegas, then that would change everything.

I like the trade but would probably change it slightly and instead of Udrih, I would want Sergio Rodriguez and would send Walker and Hudson and a future second rounder instead.

That said, this is one of the few Ray trades I would make but am terrified that Martin is fragile and injury prone.

I think there is something to the whole Pau Gasol/Memphis rationality, though.  Memphis dumped Gasol because they decided "we suck... nobody is coming to our games... why bother paying this guy if he's not helping us win and not selling tickets".   Right now Sac is a pretty average team.  If anyone is buying tickets, it's because of Tyreke Evans.  Why commit 100 million dollars to paying 3 guys who don't really matter much to your bottom line.  It's the same reason the Bucks will probably dump Michael Redd.   Brandon Jennings is going to sell tickets there... why bother paying Redd all that money if he's not really going to matter much to the team's success and not matter much to bringing in money.

He might be fragile and injury prone.  That's what everyone thought about Ray for years, though.  I remember when the Sonics traded GP for him, the locals here in Seattle had a fit.  Ray was apparently playing on two busted ankles that were being held together by screws.   It's surprising he has lasted this long really.  But people mentioned that Ray was 27 years old and GP was 34 and it made sense.  GP's game went into the toilet after that... Ray has been playing well for the last 7+ years.
