. . . I talked to him about his contract and he had no idea whether his deal was guaranteed or whether he would be waived.

"I let my agent handle all of that," he said this morning.

It's shocking to me that an NBA player could be so oblivious to something like this.

I don't think this move is all that surprising, assuming that Hudson's deal is non-guaranteed.  It saves the team a bunch of money and opens up a roster spot.  I was pleasantly surprised by Hudson's play, but ultimately, he wasn't going to contribute much this year.

Things like this just make me think once you get past a certain point in the draft you should always always draft Euros, not pay any money if they don't come and just hope you hit the next Scola or Gasol, cause between this, Giddens, Walker, and Pruitt I think Erhiden has been the best pick

Rondo's practice buddy is gone.

The question is, where is that point?  Powe was picked #45, I believe.  There will sometimes be good American value that falls (Budinger this year, for example).

However, in the case of a "win now" team like the Celts, I agree, it's better to throw a Hail Mary on some Euro prospect when you're sitting there with the 58th pick.  That being said, Hudson surprised me with the quality of his game.

Precursor to a trade or just a money saving move? I wonder!

Erden hasn't even played in an NBA game. Giddens and Walker have.

Sometimes there aren't even any worthwhile Euros left that have entered the draft at that point. I don't think you can generalize about those picks. You can only look at who was available at that particular pick on that draft. Sometimes there's just no one interesting left.

to be fair Powe made the team years ago when we didn't have a championship squad.

I just would rather have had 5 euros than Baby, Hudson, Pruitt, Giddens, and Walker.

Even if the Euros don't pan out we can probably sign guys like this anyway and to less money too.

I know Giddens and Walker have played in NBA games for us. That's kind of the problem

I find it hard to believe that you could include Baby in that list. Davis definitely has high end rotational player talent.

Chris Forsberg implies on Twitter that this cut could be for a roster move :

Quote
Hudson was scheduled to make $457,588 this season, which would seem like minimal savings for a team on pace to spend $84.7 million...

The roster spot would seem more valuable, on the surface. Interesting to see how this plays out.

Oh I totally agree with you. He's phenomenal value where he was picked. An excellent example of a high 2nd rounder being better than a low 1rst.

It's just that I said I'm at the point I'm willing to give up on picking players that we try to add to the team right away once you get to the lower first round and I can't pixck and choose so I realize I gotta give him up.

It seems as if the international players that can play are going higher and higher in the draft. A guy like Casspi went in the first round and I'm not so sure he would've a few years ago.

I'd assume scouting over there is getting better and better.

You bang that drum a little much. Not so tough to beat out nobody. He literally had to beat out nobody to make it into the Jazz rotation.
