Lost amidst the anger and overreaction of the loss to the Warriors the other night was the career night that Rajon Rondo had. No not in points scored or free throws made and attempted. But possibly in shooting. And by shooting I mean real, honest to goodness shooting, not FG% or eFG% or TS%.
Rondo was 7 for 9 from the charity stripe and, by my calculations from rewatching the game and looking at ESPN.com's shot chart for the game, was 6 for 11 on outside long and mid range shots. That's 77.8% from the free throw line and 55.6% from outside shots on a total of 20 shots that had to be taken using his new shooting form.
Now as I said, these aren't career numbers for Rondo. But for an overall outside shooting/free throw shooting night in which he had to rely on his new shooting discipline, it might be the best shooting night of his career, in that regard. I hope this becomes just another regular shooting night for Rondo and not the exception because if he can attain this type of proficiency on his shooting from the outside, on a game in and game out basis, it catapults him into the discussion as being one of the three best PGs in the league.
Bad night for the C's but extremely encouraging from this perspective. Imagine Rondo shooting like this every game for the rest of the year with a healthy group of starters and bench? Wow!!
