Play 1: 4th Quarter: Lane Violation called on a Pau Gasol miss where Artest was first in the lane

Play 2: Offensive foul on Ridnour 2 feet in front of ref where Derek Fisher clearly flops

Play 3: Kobe driving to the hoop in overtime...Bogut has perfect position and they call it a blocking foul and give him the bucket...

Gift from the refs here. Milwaukee also missed 3 ft's in crunch time, but they hit their fare share of big shots.

Yes they did. But if bogut hits that ft at the end of regulation or of that euro hits his free throws at the end of ot then the game might have been different. But yes the refs help out la as well.

BTW, you forgot to mention that the lakers took 33-17 FTA too.

As Tim Donaghy say: "You can take the Lakers out of Staples, but wherever they go they're right at home."

I hate this. Yes, the Lakers got a Christmas present with this game. They should've been 18-6 instead of 20-4, they won against Miami and Milwaukee on some unlikely shots. I hate this fact, because now they'll still say the Lakers are better than the Celtics, if they had a 18-6 record things would be different.

No need to worry about what "they" say. The experts, as I'm sure you know typically don't really know much. And there's a reason Lakers fans live in LaLa Land.

All that matters is what happens in the playoffs, where (As we all know) the Lakers will come up short with a healthy C's team back in action.

This is no surprise, unfortunately ... this has been going on forever, with the officials stroking the Lakers. Honestly, it happens in almost every game I see the Lakers in ... and the Cavs, for that matter. It's been going on since I started watching basketball ... people who say that the officials don't have an agenda, are just not watching with their eyes open. Of course they have favorites and pressures to generate close competition ... they are human, and subject to all the emotional biases that the rest of us are ... consciously or not.

Funny how, on 3 of their 5 road wins against average teams, the Lakers needed OT three times to win (against Houston, OKC and Milwaukee). The definitely don't look dominant. And Kobe has taken 20+ shots for three games in a row now, what's going on? Does he think his teammates are Smush Parker and Kwame Brown once again?

Don't forget the Ilaysova offensive 3 second call with about 9 minutes left in the 4th, right after Bynum was called for one.

I stopped and watched back on my DVR and was appalled by that call.  He was in there for a MAX of 2 seconds.  Usually you gotta be in there close to 4 for them to call it.

That game was a joke.  It's games like that where I don't even want to watch basketball anymore.

Kobe not only charged on that play but travelled also...even there biggest fan(ESPN)pointed it out in their recap later.

This game stirred up an old feeling when the last time LA was in Boston..the refs
screwed us over...KG fouled out of that game but Gasol got away with hacking him right in front of the refs late in the game. The refs overlooked a few fouls by Lakers late in that game but called a bunch of ticky tacky fouls on the Celtics. Its time like this when i agree with the previous poster.tp

I hear you.  On the other hand, hats off to Ainge who several years ago said something along the lines of "you can't win without a superstar" and then went out and acquired one for the Celtics.  I don't want to imply that now the Celtics get the same benefit of calls that the Lakers get.  But I have noticed a marked decline in complaints about refs on Cblog the past couple of years...

My point is that we can complain about the star treatment (in fact, we *should* complain), but we shouldn't sit back and hope everything gets fixed, we should make sure we do everything in our power to get and keep getting stars to play for the Celtics.
Celtics fan for life.

  • Thank you Eddie!
This isn't news; everyone knows that Kobe and Lebron are at home no matter where they go.  Anyone else remember a C's game last year at home against the Cavs when KG was hurt?  The Cavs got every call and LeQueen didn't get his 1st foul until garbage time when the Celtics were up by 10, probably so the refs could taunt the fans.  That single game probably turned me into a die hard Celtics fan for life.   :)

Pierce is the beneficiary of as many ridiculous calls and non-calls as Bryant.  Just because our team is the beneficiary doesn't make it any more fair.  Pierce travels, pushes off, and initiates all kinds of contact to "draw" fouls.

The messiah, on the other hand, is officiated in a class all by himself.

It's obvious crap like what goes on in every Cav's game and what the next tier of stars like Bryant, Pierce, Nash, Iverson, McGrady, Carter, and Wade get away with that makes what Donaghy got away with so easy....And probably prevelent.

If an NBA game with any of the above playing in it was officiated by the rulebook, it'd last about 3 days.  The officials would be blowing their whistles every 5 seconds.

My problem with last night's game was that on that blocking call, both refs up top blew their whistles and neither made a call.  They stared at each other with dread in their eyes and then it was as if a light bulb went off and they mutually thought, "Let's just confer with each other and together we'll say that it was a block where one of us won't get crucified by this crowd and everyone watching on television."

If one had called the block and one the charge, I'd have respected the overrule of one after they huddled up.  However, for both to make NO CALL and then huddle before deciding...it appeared extremely shady.
