The numbers I care about:

Offensive efficiency (pts per 100 possessions):

Boston:  109.3 (9th), Lakers: 108.5 (11th)

Defensive efficiency (pts allowed per 100):

Boston: 98.6 (1st), Lakers: 99.7 (2nd)

In other words, the two teams are pretty close, but statistically the Celts probably have the slight edge.

The numbers are fairly close butstatistically the numbers are fairly significantly apart. Our difference in efficiency (10.7) is almost 2 points better than theirs, or over 20%.

Yes, but you'd also have to evaluate strength of schedule. If you look at LA's 5 road games, though, it's not impressive. Blowout win over GS, overtime wins at OKC and HOU, 8 point loss to Utah, blowout loss to Denver. You'd have to expect that LA's numbers will take a good hit when they're not on a 17-5 home-away game advantage.

Until we at least beat the Lackers in a game this year, they are the better team. I say that not based on statistics but rather that they ended at least one of our win streaks last season, won the title, and beat us in both games we played during the season. I wouldnt disount them any until we have proved a little more then winning a lot of games against mainly inconequential opponents.

Until we meet this year neither is the better team. But statistically we're probably better so far.

Even when we meet this year two games in the regular season doesn't necessarily tell you who is going to win in the playoffs.

Look at the Spurs versus the Cavs.
