Let's get personal peeps :P

This'll be a thread for those of you that feel the need to vent! Or if you just want to read up on other peoples lives. Also, I'd like to get to know a bunch of you a bit better and (here's the kicker) I think it'd be "great for the community" to get a lil' closer :P (Corny! Cheesy! Cliché!)

Anyway, I thought I'd open this topic to get a bit more out of you lot, 'cuz I'm quite curious as to who you are, what you do, etc. Think of it as a thread like the "What do you do for a living" thread. We realised a few things in that thread as well (like 90% of the forum fall into three categories: army, education or surgeons lol)

I'll kick it off in a bit, if noone beats me to it :P

.edit: it's perfectly fine to go off-topic here, or back on topic whenever you want ;)

I feel great today. Solid W yesterday against the bulls, and stuff like that always makes my day.

Also, I went and bought myself some Christmas presents :D A new hard-drive (500gig was enough) and a Rubik's cube, as well as two DVD's.
- A Nightmare Before Christmas (already seen it a couple of times, it rocks, but I didn't own the DVD 'till now and I was desperate to see it lol)
- Public Enemies (wanted to see this one in the cinema but missed it due to a busy schedule lately)

So yehr, I'm doing quite fine :D Bit of work now, while I listen to that aforementioned DVD ;)

My first day in two weeks not on call, so I'm doin' fiiiiiine ... and doin' nuthin'! Watching the Pats, running the thread alone, munchin' Smart Food, sippin' a Dos Equis, and playing my new axe ... life is goooood! (I have company now, on the thread, that is ... much more enjoyable). ;)

I'm doing great, my company just blew up from 15 to 75 people so I'll own a Gallardo in 6 months. That aside, I'm infinitely sick of Brett Favre. I have 3 chicken burgers ready to eat and today I found a huge steal on preshredded cheese around the corner from my place. Neat!

Pic of the 'axe'? :)

I've bought this here thing a while ago:

Note that it's the first guitar I own, and my fingers have to get used to the hard strings on this thing.

Harsh tool to learn the trade with, but I like the sound. The top three strings are a bit soft, compared to the volume of the lower three. I can't really play any tunes (yet) but I love just jamming on it, and just playing chords randomly, trying to fabricate tunes ;)

Wow, that's a pretty explosive growth alright. What kind of company was that again? ;)

Sweet! The calluses will come ... but you have to play through some pain. Once you get them it's easy to maintain them, so keep pluggin'. I have a bunch of guitars, electric, acoustic, classical, bass, but this is my new baby, and it is soooooooooo sweet! It's 1/3 the price of a Les Paul and it literally blows a Gibosn away, in both workmanship and playability ... and I NEVER thought I'd say that. I'm in love with ESP's. (You can see if you look closely, the entire body, neck and head-stock are bound in mother-of-pearl). ;)

I did keep playing through the pain, and I did lose some skin in the first few months, and I keep playing through the pain because I just love how I continue to improve. The improvements are small and since I don't have a teacher or something it'll be very, very slow, and I have no idea if I'm doing it "the right way" but at the very least, I'm having lots of fun :) If you got any hints, gimme gimme :)

Btw, I'm going to borrow an electric guitar from a friend. He hasn't played in years and doesn't mind dropping it at my place for a few months :)

And that guitar of yours is very, very pretty :D I have no idea what the difference in sounds will be (yet) since I hardly know how to play anything halfway resembling a song :]

I never had a lesson either until after I had been playing in bands for many years, so all you need is the desire ... and if you love it, it never seems like a chore. Keep up the good work, Bud ... and don't let anyone discourage you ... music is the language of the soul, and for me, nothing compares to playing and writing songs. ;)

I used to play, too.  I had a few lessons, but never was that good.   When I was waiting for the callouses to form I switched to nylon strings (folk music was my genre) and switched back and forth beween a guitar with steel and the nylon until I could play without pain.  When you learn five or six chords, get a capo and you can play (basic strum or pick) and then go from there.  Lessons are a good idea, though, or maybe a knowledgable friend who can teach you how to switch chords and strumming techniques.  Even if you can't read music you can probably figure out chording (left hand) although it takes time to get the fingers to stretch to some unusual positions while holding the strings tight enough to get sound out of them.  Practice, practice, practice.
