Quote
The former American professional basketball player Antoine Walker has reached a deal with three Las Vegas casinos to repay the $905,000 he owes them in order to avoid a court trial on fraud charges.

“I fully intend to accept the full responsibility of the debt,” Walker, said. “I’ve made some mistakes with some finances.”

Antoine Walker risked standing trial on three felony bad check charges which could have resulted in a lengthy prison sentence for the 6 foot 9 inch ex-NBA pro. Instead, he agreed to pay $12,835 a month until his debt is cleared, including forfeiting his $135,000 cash bail post to further reduce his debt to $770,050.

Well that's one issue resolved somewhat, at least.    Next on the agenda for Toine : Get his reputation back as a 3pt-shooting Chucker instead of a Slumlord.    ::)

Really sad ... but this is a huge problem, with many professional athletes.

I am a little curious where 12K a month will come from. I hope he doesn't expect to win it in a casino

ha, ha. good one. maybe antoine is feeling lucky.

but honestly, it is sad to see anyone with such troubles, but particularly antoine since he was a celtic.

by the way, in case anyone is interest, given the terms of his payments, he will be forking over $12,835 a month for the next 5 years.

geez, that is a lot of loot.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Good post and I'm glad to hear some good news on Antoine Walker. He is one of my favorite Celtics.

Hopefully he's not done in the league. I think he still has a lot of game left in him.

Poor Antoine.  It's a sad day when this constitutes good news, but I suppose it does.

I always liked Antoine, too.  For all his faults, he and Paul had a modicum of success together.

I hope for him that he can get this taken care of and move on.  However, if he has a problem (which I would suspect he does after he got himself into this mess in the first place), I hope that moving on includes getting some addiction help.

Good luck, Employee # 8.

I have no sympathy for him what so ever. Manage your money better next time.

Yeah....It's sooo easy to manage over 100 million dollars when your nature is being generous to people you know(whom you THINK are your friends)....Give me a break, NextCeltic34.

If Walker was more of a complete azz, attitude-wise, perhaps he wouldn't be in such a big mess right now....

And besides, he has a GAMBLING PROBLEM, NextCeltic34!!  Stop crapping on him about "taking better care of his money next time".   Have you ever had a Gambling Addiction???

Exactly.

Next stop for Toine:

Europe.

Maybe there's some oblivious team owner willing to shell out a couple of million Euros for Toine to chuck up 3s for a couple of seasons.
