It's great to see Perk get an increased spotlight in the national media. On SI.com he has the front page of the NBA section with this good article by Britt Robson.

That was a nice piece.  Good to see Perk front and center on SI.com's NBA page.  

This part definitely sums up Perk well, IMO.

That's why statistics inadequately, or very subtly, measure Perk's worth. Sure he's scoring more from both the field and the line so far this season, but as Rivers points out, he's also setting much better picks, resulting in fewer offensive fouls, and is playing a major role in creating the league's second-best effective field goal percentage (which accounts for the added value of three pointers).

There was another part of the article I found interesting about how he defends the post up;

Unlike most players, Perkins doesn't use a forearm when guarding opponents who operate with their backs to the basket. "If you use the forearm, you don't have enough balance when they spin or fade away," he said. Instead, he uses hands for sensory information; the outside hand placed on an opponents' tailbone to determine where he's going (and, if possible, to guide him), while the inside hand stabs for steals.

The use of hands never clicked with me until reading this. It's amazing to think a straight-from-highschool player like Perk could have such a refined defensive technique, and I don't think this would have been taught (or at least introduced) by Cliff Ray since I don't think I've seen Big Al or Dwight for that matter use it before....

I have said it many times, Perk is the best defensive player in the league within 4 feet of the basket. It's interesting that Doc calls him the teams best defensive player. What a combination Perk and KG make with KG able to roam the floor and cover anyone out to the three point line while Perk rules the paint.
