Can't see anyone trading 1st or 2nd string Point-Guard. The best 'maybe' available 3rd string Point-Guard is Keyon Dooling. The Good, he's a vet and can make an easy transition. The bad, he is due $3,828,000 in 2010.

I'd probably do it.  Hayes might actually be the best we get in return for Tony / Scal as far as a wing backup  :-\

I'd actually really like to have Dooling; he can play decent defense and handle the ball well enough.  He's also not really short so it wouldn't be too great of a defensive liability if we had him and Eddie playing together.

On the other hand, exactly how much cap space does this save the Nets?  The only way they'd do this trade (since the talent is very one-sided) is if they'd save a lot of money or free up a lot of cap-space doing it. 

Also, I'm not sure they'd want to kill their fanbase any more by trading away any of the very little talent they have left coming off the bench.

if you're NJ, why are you doing this deal? you're not saving any money and you're not adding any talent.

there needs to be a reason why a team does a deal. trades involving these two gentlemen leaving the Cs need to involve the other team saving money -- considering they're not talented.

Yeah, NJ needs more incentive. Scal would have to agree to a buyout for less than his contract is worth, for instance. A draft pick as well, most likely.

Anyone know the details on Dooling's contract (link)? I hear it is only partially guaranteed for next year, but don't know exactly how much.

Keyon's pretty long and rangy.  I always thought he did ok at the 2.

On the other hand he handles the ball better than Eddie, can actually run an offense passably well (like that pun?), plays far better defense, and has the size (6' 3'' I believe) to adequately cover shooting guards, at least for short stretches.

The point is a backcourt of Eddie+Dooling wouldn't be ideal, but it'd probably be more functional than Eddie+Marquis and especially Eddie+TA.  Acquiring Keyon would also allow us to play Marquis at SF more often.

Keyon Dooling is an erratic floor general with poor decision making. His inability to run an offense makes everyone's life more difficult.

Eddie House is a better point guard. His dribble to three point line and get rid of the basketball is more effective PG play than a player like Keyon Dooling. Dooling's mistakes + indecision prove far more costly than a player like House who plays within his own limitations.
