Didnt Gerald tear up the D-League as a 19 yr. old? Better yet wasnt he tear up the Rocky Mountain Revue last summer with Dallas? Didnt he have something like 15 plus 20pt. scoring games with the Celtics at 20-21 yrs old. including two 30 plus scoring games? So he is a NBA player, apparently Gerald Green has a maturity issue . But 6ft 8inch tall small forwards with uber athleticism doesnt grow on trees. And the guy is a good to great jumpshooter so I really dont understand the problem myself. But tearing up the D-League would not prove anything scouts dont already know. They all knew he was a 1st round lottery type talent. Amd honestly he was quite productive for us the Boston Celtics being he was only a year removed from highschool before we traded him. I honestly believe we damaged his psyche by trading him away. Because he truly wanted to become a good Celtic & could have learned from some great players had we kept him.
Couple of statements to remember what is fact and what is Gerald green, urban legend:
1.) We did not trade him one year removed from high school. He had two full seasons here to prove how inept he was, not one.
2.) 6'8" small forwards with uber-athleticism actually are quite common. There are literally hundreds of them all across this land playing in division 1 colleges. Also, there are probably thousands of them playing in high schools, Euro-leagues and semi-pro leagues all across the world. What there is not is 6.8" small forwards with uber-athleticism and extraordinary basketball talent, maturity, and basketball knowledge and understanding to make it to the NBA. Just so that we are clear Gerald is the former but definitely not the latter.
3.) Just so that we are 100% clear Gerald played in 32 games his rookie year, scored in double figures 7 times and scored 20+ once. He failed to score more than 2 points on 17 separate occasions that rookie year. In his second year here he played in 81 games, he scored in double figures 35 times, scored 20+ 15 times and 30+ once. He scored 20+ in consecutive games just three times. He was wildly inconsistent and more likely to score 3-7 points the game after scoring 20+ than he was to score any other amount.
4.) Gerald could on occasion shoot the ball well enough to score 20 points. What he couldn't do well was pass, hold onto the ball, rebound, block shots, steal balls, play one on one defense, play team defense, learn offensive plays, learn defensive rotations, follow instructions or act maturely. You know, all those things that people have to know how to do to play NBA basketball. That he never could learn how to do those things is why he is no longer an NBA basketball player and why HE REALLY ISN'T AN NBA PLAYER ANY LONGER!!! It takes more than one skill and the desperation of a coach that has no one else on his bench worthy of playing to make up an NBA player.
