Ouch!
I dislike most team names for expansion teams in all sports from the mid '80s onwards. They all seem to be either names based on collective nouns (Heat, Magic, Fire, Dynamo, Lightning, etc.), or animal names you would find painted on the wall of the local junior high gym (Bobcats, Hornets, Grizzlies, Panthers, Jaguars, Sharks, etc.) Boring.
I like team names based on Native American tribes or other ethnic backgrounds (Celtics, Fighting Irish, Warriors, Braves, etc.). These names are meant as tributes. Nobody picks a name for themselves meant to be derogatory (Banana Slugs and a few other minor college mascots are meant as a joke, but still not derogatory). Also good are names with some kind of local meaning (Nuggets, Brewers, Patriots, Supersonics, Trailblazers, Knickerbockers). I like New Orleans Voodoo that's a good idea, Hornets is terrible and has no meaning. Memphis Fishtacos is great!
I would like to see a bunch of teams revert to old names. Wizards become Bullets, Thunder become Seattle Supersonics, LA Clips become San Diego Clips, GS Warriors become SF Warriors, Jazz and Lakers can stay like they are, since their history all happened after their moves. Hopefully the Nets will adopt a new name in Brooklyn. Sacramento Kings should be moved to KC.
