Frankly, I think he's having an affair with Tiger Woods. It started with golf....

I just hope someone from CSN reads these threads. Donny is awful.

Let me add to the long list of annoying things he does. His condescending way of saying fans don't understand like he does.

Donny is really good. I enjoy his insight, and i think it's unfair because most of his critics don't like him just because he wasn't a Celtic.

Stay strong Donny.

I resent Donny because he ruins Mike for me. The only entertaining thing about his commentary is trying to imagine what Mike is thinking. Maybe it's because Tommy's anecdotes come from a HOF career and Donny's don't but I can't stand his little stories and name dropping. I also cant stand how often he states the obvious, mispronounces Rajon and says Mike although in his defense he probably needs to do that to keep Mike from nodding off while he's droning on.

I have been thinking a lot about Mike and Tommy retiring this season and it makes me enjoy games where I can't listen to them a little less each time.

Donny and Tanguay together oh my there is no visual out there to covey my horror at the possibility.

Yeah, really, lol! (TP) You can tell Mike is thinking things while Donny is talking like: "Man, I wish this guy would shut up" or "Where's Tommy? Somebody get Tommy! I need Tommy back NOW!" or "Maybe I'll retire a little sooner than I'd planned" or "Blah blah blaba babba blah-ba" ... and Donny has not figured out that he's in Boston, that he's trying to fill Tommy's shoes, and that he NEEDS to be a HOMER! We WANT a homer ... that's why we love Tommy so much, cuz he's not the least bit afraid to be completely and unashamedly BIASED when it comes to the Celtics. To heck with being fair, Donny ... we don't WANT fair, we want HOMERISM, plain and pure and simple, as GREEN as you can GET! ;)

Not being a Celtic is probably the least likely reason. I'd take Jeff Van Gundy in heart beat over him. I'd also take Jon Barry who I never liked as a player (rightly or wrongly) because he wouldn't sign with the C's after they drafted him.

Haha TP. Those are exactly the kind of things I imagine Mike is thinking. I bet he and Tommy get together after a road trip and commiserate about Donny and Gary.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

I did not like Donny last year. I am starting to like him. I think his analysis has gotten better. He makes some decent points. He is getting better at his job.

...to all you kids and college players out there - don't set moving picks... that's another Donny thing he always does- thinking he's giving advice to all the young players.
Donny is a good speaker, has good energy, and seems likeable enough, but I think he just sucks as an analyst.  He just doesn't seem to state anything thats not completely obvious- other than who he ran into while peeing at halftime.
I think Mike Gorman is fantastic.  I'm sure this is rare for people on this site but I can't take Tommy anymore.  He's a legend and everything else, but I can't take his constant complaining about refs and foul calls.  To me it just takes away from the focus of the actual game.  If I can watch someone else like Hubie Brown or Van Gundy call a C's game, I do it every time.  Plus it's good to get a different opinion that is free of the bias.  That's just me.

Coming out of lurking mode to re-post my banned sig image.  It'll probably get me another warning... maybe even get me banned, but it's *so* appropriate for this thread that I can't resist.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
He makes me want to watch Celtics games on mute, Gorman is the reason I don't. He was an NBA scrub he hasn't won anything and hasn't coach anyone worth noting. Why does he think he is qualified to tell guys what they are doing wrong when they're probably twice the NBA player he ever was.

I agree with most of these posts and think that Donny is a big step down from Tommy.  But he really isn't that bad.

Have you ever watched other local broadcasts on NBAtv?  There are some HORRIBLE announcers around the league.

Donny could be better, definitely, but he (or someone else) could also be a whole lot worse.

Lifelong Celtics fan (moved to South Florida in 1988 after school), and am stuck watching on NBA LP Broadband (home theatre pc). Picture does not fill out TV screen, and other teams' broadcasters are usually horrible.

Unlike MLB, cannot choose teams' broadcasters. If could, would always, ALWAYS, select Mike and Tommy. Donnie on the other hand......

Lol, well isn't that the kettle calling the pot black.  Donny probably wasn't the most talented guy around, but that doesn't mean he doesn't know what he is talking about.  If you guys are worried about his credentials, I'd like to see all of your credentials.  What makes you qualified to tell him what he is doing wrong?

Donny isn't great, I'm not here to claim he is.  But I think its kind of hipocritical to call him out for a lack of credentials when you yourself dont have them.  Remember, there are plenty of guys who have never played the game at all who are announcers, Mike being one of them. Are there better announcers? yes.  But there are also worse ones.  Donny doesn't bother me, though.
