Celtics guard Ray Allen missed practice Saturday to be with his son, Walker, who was hospitalized, according to a team source. Allen's status for the Celtics' visit to Miami Sunday has not been determined.

Walker Allen, who suffers from diabetes, was hospitalized Friday. Ray Allen scored 20 points in the Celtics' 116-103 win over Toronto Friday night, leaving the game with 2:08 remaining to visit his son.

Sad news. I hope it's nothing serious and he gets to come home soon. It makes me really sad to see children battle illnesses like this so young.

My son is 15 months young. I can totally relate.

My thoughts go to Ray and family.

I would have to assume it's hard to concentrate on basketball when you are dealing with this type of situation.

Good luck to the Allen family.

CSN says he's making the trip to Miami so I'm praying that means he got some reassuring news before he left. Get well soon little Walker.

Ray Allen, coming off a 20-point effort in Boston's 116-103 win over the Toronto Raptors Friday night, did not practice with the team on Saturday due to a family illness.

However, Allen was able to rejoin the team in time to make their 3 p.m. flight out of Boston to Miami.

Even though he'll be with the team for Sunday's game, it's unclear whether he'll play.

Allen's son Walker, who was diagnosed with diabetes during the Celtics' championship run in 2008, became ill and was hospitalized Friday.

While it is unclear if Walker's illness is associated with his diabetes, Allen felt the matter was serious enough to leave the team.

Wow, I didn't even notice that Ray left before the end of the game. It just puts things in perspective.. that basketball is just a game. I hope everything turns out ok for Ray and his family.

Poor Walker. I can't imagine how Ray feels right now. I made sure to say at Thanksgiving that I'm thankful for my health.  Get well Walker, and I send my wishes to Ray and his family that the kid will get better.

It says it's unclear if the illness is related to diabetes, man, if not, that kid has some terrible luck. Maybe it could even be H1N1. I hope he gets well soon and stays well.

I hope it's nothing serious and that Ray's son can heal quickly. It's hard enough to have a diabetic child, and it would be tougher if he was ill of something else or if his situation has worsened. Best of luck and recovery to him.

Best wishes to better health. I have a friend that has diabetes and he has been in ICU twice this year. He recovered both times but I know how that stuff can mess with you. Prayers to the family and Walker's recovery.
Can't stop, Rondo!
