Are the Celtics being unfairly targeted for technical fouls?

Or are they deserving of what is a league leading amount of technical fouls? here is a chart of the technical fouls called per team. The Celtics lead in player technical fouls called against, they are tied for coach technical fouls called against and they are the far away leader of total technical fouls called against.

Of all the players with more than 2 technicals called against them this year, the Celtics have the most with 4 players with 2 or more technical fouls.

Why? Do they complain more than other players and teams? Do they not complain properly? Do they curse more?

Or are they just not personally like as much as individuals as other players on other teams are? Ordinarily, I'm not the conspiracy theory type and believe that you get what you deserve, but having seen last night's calls against Sheed, Pierce and Doc for technicals and having read the Donaghy accusations, I'm not so sure anymore!!

Sheed at least gets some words in before he is T'd up. It is the questionable ones given for nonverbal actions (how are the refs qualified to discern what people are thinking?!) and every one given out by Crawford that I have trouble with. 

The problem with the techs is that it is a cycle as players with the reputation for getting Ts end up getting T'd more it seems. We have Perk and Sheed now. And also Doc who seems to pile them up. Not to mention the incident with Kennedy so we probably will be getting our fair share and a few extra thrown in this season.

That list is interesting. Alot of the elite are near the top. Maybe its a sign of competitiveness. There have been a couple of really questionable ones this year but seeing that list makes me feel that we are just passionate about winning

I'm convinced that Rasheed Wallace and Kendrick Perkins are being targeted by the refs.  I don't know about othr Celtics.

There seems to be a quick whistle for Perk.  Wallace usually makes it impossible not to call a tech however.  He'll go on and on until he gets the whistle, then he goes on and on some more.  Last night was the exception.

Sheed already has a bad rep with the officials.

Perk is starting to build a rep with the officials too. I think they view Perk as a enforcer and are quick to blow the whistle, whether it be a flagrant foul, offensive foul or a technical foul.

Well, I definitely think the refs have a quick trigger on a lot of the C's players (and Doc), because they have a reputation as guys who get a ton of T's.  So it is somewhat the C's own making, since it is well known that 50% of NBA refereeing is based on reputation.

No wonder why we shoot so many threes.I know these points are not technical fouls, but they lead to justified complaints from our team that result in technical fouls.

I don't think they don't actually dislike Pierce.  I think he is just not on the level of Kobe and Lebron on the superstar scale, which means, he only gets the average amount of calls when he jumps into guys in the lane, which is something like 50%, compared to the 90% the superstars get.

The Celtics deserve to be the league leader in technicals. They whine + complain more than any other team in the league.

No, I don't think they are. I can't really say about Doc's one, but Wallace and Pierce deserved the ones they got yesterday. As far as I remember, only one that Crawford handled to Perkins may have been uncalled for (I'm not sure though). This team just whines and talks to the refs an awful lot.

I disagree. I have watched Pierce's entire NBA career, and he gets less respect from the officials than rookies, but he takes more of a beating than almost anyone. He does it without whining as well. It's not Pierce throwing himself into people expecting calls, he knows he's not going to get calls, but he takes it strong to the hoop anyway.

Last night had some deserved (Sheed got his money's worth) and some ridiculous (Doc & Pierce...LeBron does worse stare downs every night).

I agree with those that have made points in this thread about reps.

Even tough some of these T's are deserved, most of them are totally undeserved and are being called because... well, they are the Celtics. ::)

Perk and Sheed particularly have been targeted unfairly, and Doc too.

I mean, how come such a Technical hasn't been rescinded yet?!
