I have always thought of Shaq as a decent human being, (anyone who nick-names Paul Pierce "The Truth" knows what they're talking about), and this is another instance which just further supports that belief. A 5-year-old was (alledgedly) sold by her mother to a man who (alledgedly) raped the child and murdered her.

While it is difficult to find anything positive with an incident like this, Shaq was nonetheless touched by this story and stepped up to do a very decent thing, by paying for the little girl's funeral. God bless the sweet spirit of this little girl, those who loved her, and Shaq.

TP for story and point. I have 2 daughters and look down upon crappy parents like. Couldn't imagine what I would do, besides kill em both.
Can't stop, Rondo!

stories like this (not the Shaq part) make me lose my faith in humanity.  There should really be a test before procreation is allowed and all those with under an 95% should be steralized...

but kudos to Shaq for doing something nice that no one asked of him.

hmmmm...that would certainly help solve the world's population problem. i doubt all that many folks would qualify as a great parent.

to qualify for most jobs, you need education of some sort.

to qualify for a driver's license, you need practice and to pass a test.

to qualify to be a dad, you need.....?

being a good parent is not "natural" or in our DNA. which may help explain why so many are lost or unsure when they become parents.

and I'm talking obvious stuff like, what is an appropriate activity for a 1 month old:

A) driving a car
B) watching TV
C) feeding
D) balancing a checkbook

What should you do when your child throws a tantrum in a crowded restaurant

A) ignore it, he'll cry himself out
B) whatever it is, give in
C) pull out your camera phone and video record it for the future
D) fight with patrons telling you you are a bad parent
E) remove the child from the situation, let him or her calm down and assess whether or not he can be brought back in. If not, take him home and avoid restaurants for 6 months.

Kudos to Shaq (I always liked him, even in that ugly jersey) and a Tommy Point for Bahku.

Rest in peace, little girl. No one can hurt you now.

Shaq is one of my fave players (despite the fact that he's a former Laker and current Cav). He's one of the greatest big men to ever play, and he just genuinely seems like a good guy.

He actually does a lot for the community, especially issues involving children. People think that his foray into law enforcement is all for fun and publicity, but he actually uses his name and position to raise awareness.

This incident is tragic, and this little girl was clearly never shown any genuine love in her short life. Shaq being a father recognized this, and decided to step in and show this girl’s spirit that she deserved love.

Serious props to him for stepping up.
