  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I figure his contract is quite reasonable. Look at some of the players we have had here recently with 11+ mill/year contracts: Raef, Wally, Theo- with Vin Baker and Blount not far behind. Rondo is so so so much more valuable than any of those guys.

Also, he is NOT a max player. He will be making just over half of what Ray is currently getting. I agree that he needs to be very good player to earn this contract and I was hoping for 10mill or under, but I am happy to get him locked up. There is no reason to believe he is going to fall off a cliff like the aforementioned guys listed above.

I could easily have made a list of Rondo's shortcomings. But I didn't. For me there a lot of likable things about Rajon both on and off the court which don't change even when he's playing poorly. If we could only like or praise flawless players then we'd have no favorites would we?  OK I'll climb off my soapbox now. TP for the positive posts and happy holidays to all :-)
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

Rondo's defense was pretty horrid once again tonight, but at least it seemed to click that this team desperately need him to push the tempo, and control things in games like this.  This team's old legs are having trouble keeping up with the younger, athletic teams, and in these games, they desperately need their young, athletic point guard to control the game, and help the rest of the team keep up with the kids.

Now, my hope is that he can keep it up from game to game.

I only saw part of the game last night but the opposing pg was 4-13 with 6 assists and 4 turnovers. How horrid could Rondo's defense have been?

He was horrible on 1 play that I recall where his guy seemingly went right by him for an easy lay in.  I suppose you could make the argument that he was feeding his guy left and got no help but, it looked like he wasn't paying attention.  Sometimes a play so egregious can make it seem a lot worse than his overall play really was. For the most part IMO he played pretty well but, sixers were draining 3's.

OK, horrible is probably overstating it (although relative to his defensive potential, I think its accurate), but he certainly was not stepping up defensively like he did on the offensive side.
