Good Deron I'll give you, maybe. Good CP is a ball dominator. I've never liked him as much as other people have, it seems - and if you think Rondo's defense is bad, watch Chris Paul.
He was anointed a superstar, but superstars don't quit on their coaches and get beat by 58 in their own house.
When CP3 is at his best, he does everything Rondo does well, plus is an elite scorer. Rondo is maybe a better rebounder, but that's the only advantage I'd give him.
I'd trade Rondo for CP3 ANY old time Shinn wants to make that move.
We go through this all the time: People thought Gerald Green was a star because he could dunk. Triple-doubles are nothing more than what they are, and they're not a measure of decision-making with the basketball, defense, etc.
I don't follow your analogy there. A dunk, as spectacular as it may be, is always worth 2 points. A TD is at least 10/10/10 - even if you shoot a poor percentage or turn the ball over a lot, those stats are still far from a negative impact.
Admittedly, I only caught OT of the Knicks game. The consensus seems to be that Rondo, despite his stats, didn't really play all that well. With that said, it seems like everybody disagrees on just why his play was unsatisfactory, setting aside the free throws and the play to close the fourth quarter.
Can somebody give me a clear answer on how he played tonight? I see 10 point on 5/13 shooting - not good but not awful, at least he's shooting. I see 4/8 free throw attempts tonight - while I hate the percentage, I like that he's at least drawing the fouls. 13 shots and 8 free throws implies that he was fairly aggressive on offense. I see 10 assists, 9 rebounds and 4 steals, which says to me that he was all over the court. Only 2 turnovers - good. How was his defense? He obviously made one bad decision at the end of regulation - how was his decision making otherwise?
