Rondo is far from perfect, and his free-throw shooting is horrible, but he also provided the energy that won this game tonight, and came just 3 rebounds short of a triple-double. He's working hard on improving the areas of his game where he needs help, but the Big Three have confidence in him, and that's enough for me. I was at the game tonight and Rondo was the one who turned it around ... reading some of the comments on this thread is amazing ... I mean, was everyone watching the same game?!? ;)

I just looked at the box score and am shocked. He had only 4 turnovers?!?

I can't recall seeing a point guard throwing more bad passes in one game. At one point I started to wonder whether he was intentionally throwing the game.
This just shows how poor we humans are at observations and memory.

This guy is in his 4th NBA season and just signed a 5-year, $55 million contract extension. Yet, I am reading that his defense will improve as will his free throw shooting. Now I agree that he was a key part of the win tonight, but for $55 million he has to bring the whole package and bring it most nights. Why, in his fourth season, are we still waiting for his defense to come and for his free throw shooting to improve?

Hard to believe, but I just read that Rondo was one missed free throw away from tying the record for most missed consecutive free throws of 11 set by none other than Chris Dudley.
If he was a good FT shooter, I think we would have paid more.

He also does get the big buck until next season. This year is still his rookie contract.

So does that mean he will be a better free throw shooter next year?

Well thank god he is this bad a FT shooter then.  We will be looking for a sucker to take his contract off our hands maybe as soon as this summer if he continues playing as lackadaisical as he has since inking that deal.  How many $55m players get benched in favor of Eddie House not once, but twice in a matter of a half dozen games?

Extending Rondo beyond this season was a terrible mistake.

It's too early to tell. Players are allowed to have bad games. He's going through a tough period, but he'll bounce back.

There was no need to extend him when we did.

Extending Rondo beyond this season was a terrible mistake.

Man, everyone is so negative around here about this guy. He just played three years as a very solid pg and improved each year- ending recently with his spectacular playoff run. So he is off to a slow start- is he the only one not playing up to his potential right now?

At this point, I will fight to the death for Rondo right now because I just don't think he is nearly as bad as everybody thinks he is and he seems to be the scapegoat here for every loss. It's no secret he can't shoot well from the outside...I for one, think it was FANTASTIC signing!

Rondo's shooting is as bad now as it was when he came into the league. Rondo's free throw shooting is far worse than when he came into the league. And, while he has the steals, overall I would say his defense has improved only slightly. I want to love the guy, but there is just something about the way he plays that won't let me do it. That is what worries me. I am just not sure about his attitude.

Wyc's going to be raped by that contract. He's NOT an elite PG.

He's making what he deserves, he's just played a bad game. I'll give you that he can be frustrating but he is very close to leading the league in steals and assists.

The free throw shooting is horrendous, but it appears to me that his jumper is a lot smoother than it used to be.  I wish he'd take a few more of them to keep defenses honest and to keep himself in the groove of hitting them.

He's not even CLOSE to what he deserves to make (way lower then 11 mil). I'm so sick of this "can't shoot" trash and the attitude he brings. He's NOT an elite point guard, his assists come PRIMARILY from passing to the big 3, his defense is atrocious, he's over confident when in reality he's a joke to most coahces, he's had nearly ALL bad games this season, his stats are misleading, he WAS NOT a hero in last years playoffs, CP3 is a BETTER point guard and Rondo is nowhere NEAR his level. If Rondo and Perk are the new "cornerstones" we're going to be the best lottery pick team out there!

Doc Rivers needs to learn that playing his starters nearly all 1st,3rd, and 4th quarter is done with. He's got a PF who can't jump anymore and is a shadow of what he used to be. In 07-08 when we had a problem he could throw in the big 3 and the game was saved, guess what, those days are gone. Doc needs to learn how to use players like Eddie/Marquis/Williams more because only good things happen with them in the line up. He keeps coaching the way he is and we're a first round exit this year.

To all the Rondo and Doc lovers it's time to stop being intoxicated on stupidity and start drinking some "reality".

1.) Rondo is making anywhere near $11 million. He's making $2.094 million this year. At that price he is one of the biggest bargains in the league.

2.) Your claim that he is not amongst the top PGs in the league is bogus. He is averaging 10.8 PPG, 8.9 APG, 4.3 RPG, 2.57 STPG, 2.35 TOPG with a PER around 20.00. He's 5th in the league in assists, leads the league in steals, he's 4th in the league for FG% among all guards and 5th in the league for PER amongst all PGs and 35th amongst all players. The stats show he is among the best players in the league, not just PGs.

3.) Your claim that people who believe in Doc and Rondo is insulting and not necessary.
