  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
The Golden State player I covet is Beidrins, not Ellis.

I would LOVE to have Biedrins, but I don't think they are giving up on him anytime soon and this trade would have to include Perk to get him, which is then dismantling our team.

As for Ellis vs. Ray, I agree that the scoring numbers would be similar if Ray was in GS, but I like Ellis' assists, rebounds, and steals over Ray's. Again, I don't think that he necessarily brings the 'intangibles' that Ray does, but it has to be something you think about...

What has Ray Allen ever done to you that you would send him to Golden State? That's just cruel.

Golden State is having serious problems. They showed their lack of backbone by catering to Stephen Jackson and trading him away. Now Monta wants out as well. He is a talented young player, and he played great at the 2 next to Baron Davis a few years ago. Here's a thought:

Ray Allen

for

Monta Ellis and Speedy Claxton

The starting 5 gets a lot younger, giving us the fresh legs we need, and giving Rondo a highly talented player to play next to for the next 5-10 years. Monta is everything Rondo's not, so I think Monta would be a great complement to Rondo's game.

Perk
KG
Pierce
Ellis
Rondo

Only thing I can think of as to why I wouldn't do this is Monta's height, but I don't think it'd be a major issue with the way we tend to run our lineups small anyways.

Why does GS do it? Because Ray Allen is THE best expiring contract in the league, and would give GS the financial flexibility to start over from scratch.

I was thinking of Monta in green as well before I read your post. I like the idea of trading Ray and filler for Monta and I would grab Maggette too.  Nelson wants him out as well.  Monta could start at the 2 and be the backup point that we do not have.  C's need some players who can create their own shots and both Maggette and Ellis can take it to the hole.  I remember clearly how Ray melted in too many big playoff games the last 2 years and good playoff defense can shut him down because he has lost the step to be able to get by his man.  This would all depend on Monta's personality.  If he is a head case I would not make the trade but for the present and future of the team,  I go with the young 24 year old scorer over the 34 year old vet.  Age would no longer be such a factor now and going forward.  Maggette is instant offense off the bench and gives Pierce more rest.  It is not going to be easy winning another championship with 3 stars pushing 35.  Nelson gets rid of his 2 contracts and lets Ray walk next season.

Maybe if you replace TA with Rondo they would consider it.

I was looking at it in the sense they would be shedding some serious cash between Ray and Scal as expiring contracts and they would be able to shoot for one of the big free agents and possibly sign Ray for short money as a mentor to Curry the following season?

Is there a way to work in BBD?

So they are giving up two of their best young players to do this?

Perhaps they will sell Ellis low (although I think they will end up getting more than expiring contracts for him), but there is no way they are giving Biedrins away without recieving some real assets.

They should get rid of Biedrins (and Maggette) after dumping Ellis, IMO. He plays worse defence every season.

Agreed -- Biedrins' defense is atrocious + GSW should move him.
