Per ESPN :

Quote
The Grizzlies announced Monday in a statement that the team has ended its one-year contract with the 10-time All-Star and former league MVP in what it called a mutual agreement. Iverson is expected to be placed on waivers by 6 p.m. ET Monday, a league source told ESPN.com's Chris Sheridan.

Under the agreement, Iverson will receive only a fraction of the $3 million he was scheduled to earn. If he clears waivers, he will become an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday night.

Iverson has been on a personal leave of absence for 10 days. Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley had told Iverson's agent, Leon Rose, earlier Monday that team wanted to know soon whether Iverson would play or retire, the Memphis Commercial Appeal reported on its Web site.

In three games since returning from a hamstring injury, Iverson averaged 12.3 points and 3.7 assists in 22.3 minutes as a reserve.

Didn't take long! 3 games and he quits the team... are you kidding me?! What a joke, Iverson has to retire now, even though I think he can't get even more ridiculous...

Iverson will land somewhere else, I'm sure.

I thought Charlotte might have been a good spot for him, but the Jackson acquisition complicates things there.

Plus, it seems like Charlotte would make sense, but then you realize they already have DJ Augustin, Raymond Felton, and Flip Murray - all point-guard sized scoring guards.  I don't think they really have room for Iverson on that team.

I don't think he would've walked away for cash unless somebody offered him something.

True. But as of most recently, Larry Brown was starting Stephen Graham at SG for them. So you'd figure AI would be an upgrade.

Looking over current rosters, I wonder whether the Knicks might be interested. A backcourt of Duhon, Hughes, Nate, and Toney Douglas doesn't exactly strike fear into the hearts of opposing defenses.

I think New Orleans could use him too, especially with CP3 out for the foreseeable future. I doubt that the acting coach/GM of the Hornets would go for that, though.

Oops, they waved him, so he gets paid plus anything anyone else will give him.

I wonder how much money it took to buy him out.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was his plan from the beginning.  Get a bad team to sign him for more money then a good team would offer.  Quit early on a bogus claim.  Get a fat buy out.  Go sign for a better team that he can "lead"

Yeah, I always thought AI would end up in Charlotte in the offseason.  I think it would be a good move for both parties if that happened.

The Portland Red Claws could use him.  Get on that phone, Austin!

That's what happens when you think practice is worthless, and coming off the bench is not for you.
