Perk is quickly becoming my favorite player on this team.  He is such a quality center and his dedication to improving his game is off the charts.  Give the kid the minutes he deserves them until someone else shows some energy.

I agree.  I don't understand why Perk is playing less than 30 minutes a game.  It's true Sheed demands minutes, and Shelden has been earning them too.  But Perkins is the anchor of our defense, and he's not bad on offense anymore, either.  I think we're doing our team a disservice by not playing him enough.  Especially when Sheed is throwing up so many bricks.

On the other hand, our offensive unit is at a disadvantage when we have not one, but two people on the floor who can't consistently hit a jumpshot - Rondo AND Perk.  I think that's probably the main reason he hasn't been in more, especially at the end of the game.

I support Perk getting more minutes, but I am also against him getting more touches.  As it is, the Celtics are too often pounding it down into Perk in the lowpost when there are multiple all-star caliber offensive players standing around watching.  So far I haven't liked that trend this year.

At least he us constantly trying to pound it down there.

KG and Wallace need to do a little more offensive pounding.  Both have been very effective when they do.

I agree with Spilling Green. I'm confident when Perk gets the ball in the low post and makes his way to put up a shot, but on the other hand I feel like it's "blocking" our offense too much. He doesn't do out passes as much as he did before, and it was quite effective because defenders were double teaming Perk and he just threw the ball to an open Celtic from beyond the 3 point line.

But I would be glad to see him play more minutes, especially considering how low Sheed's production has been these past few games (on offense and on defense).

The thing with giving Perk more touches inside is at least he's consistent.  You can count on Perk to give you 10-12 ppg if you look for him on offense.

The more we develop an inside game through Perk the more it will open up the floor for the rest of our team.  The same goes for Rondo.  We need more offense from both Rondo and Perk so it will open up the floor for the Big 3.  The Big 3 can't be expected to create their own shots every single possession.

I think the Celtics defense would benefit from more Perk.

Last year in the playoffs, he provided 11, 11 and 2.6 in 36 minutes a game.  He was the defenses back bone.

Now, he is playing closer to half the game.

I think if he was to play another 5 minutes a game (about 30 per game), the Celtics defense and rebound in going to improve.

Watching the Celtics, it still looks like like Perk is the backbone of the defense.  KG is the leader that makes the rest of the defense go, but Perk is the backbone.  What he does out there allows KG to be more effective coming from the backside.

But isn't shelden grabbing like six rebounds a game as well? That seems like  pretty apt 4th big man numbers.
But I do agree with you, he is the rock of this defense, and he's much more intimidating than williams/wallace.
Practice? Whatchu talkin about practice?

Williams is not equal in terms of defense.

More to the point, it is not about playing Williams or Wallace less minutes.  It is about getting Perk more minutes.  The minute loss to the other guys is just a side effect.

I agree completely that Perk needs to be on the floor more.  This is the one quirk of Doc's coaching that I can't quite understand.  The only thing that makes sense is that Perk has shown to wear down more, and become less effective when he plays more minutes...and honestly it would be tough to tell, since he really has never played a ton of minutes per game for a whole season.

While I like what Wallace brings to the table, and I think Williams has really stepped up this year, having Perk in there is a huge boost defensively, and that is where the C's have been struggling.

Hopefully they build up his minutes throughout the season, so he can be seeing more as other guys start wearing down.

We've got to have some kind of inside game so if Perk is the only one asking for the ball down there, I prefer to give it to him.  I'd rather have KG and Wallace trying to post up, but what you see is what you get from those two.
