We lost to the Hawks. We played badly. That's no reason to start thread after thread on how old we are, how useless we are, how you want an injured player back instead of a proven winner and All-Star, how the game (a lousy, meaningless regular season game, no less) was fixed and getting on the back of our Coach... again. There's more I've missed but you get my point. It's stupid and pathetic.

Get behind the team, constructively criticize maybe, but give the whole overreaction a rest. It's boring and annoying.

I approve of this message and Jeff's excellent article on the front page.

TP's for both, we have issues (rebounding against athletic teams, problems with teams with deep back courts) but so does every team. See Lakers last night.

Iceberg ahead!!

For real, no panic from me. I'll take my chances with this squad healthy in a 7 Game series against anyone.

Venting has historically been much more popular on this (and I'm sure other) blogs than gushing about the positives has.
Yup

TP.  I'm with you...i feel the same way.  I'd also like to add threads posted about why KG, Ray or PP were left in a blowout win with 9 minutes left in the 4th quarter.  I've seen a few of those and those are just as bad.

The C's looked straight up old last night against the Hawks, it was hard to watch. Maybe the starters should only play every other game since they are so old.

I agree, thanx for starting this thread CM. We lost to a team who will very likely (IMO) end up in the top 3 seeds in the East come playoff time this year. I think they are a huge matchup problem for the Cleveland Lebrons and the Orlando Howards.

We have a better and deeper defensive group than either of them and we certainly are just as athletic. I promise Cleveland and Orlando will dread playing them this season every single time they meet. Next to us, the Hawks have the best depth and balance in the East that I have seen this season.

Atlanta is the real deal and they simply outplayed us for one game. Do I like the loss? Of course not, but that doesnt mean I will start with the blame game and fingerpointing.

Our gameplan didnt work out last nite, they executed theirs better and there was more than a few bad breaks against us particularly from an officiating standpoint.

Case in point:

I've been posting brief recaps with a photo after each game on our Facebook page (you did know we have a Facebook page, yeh? http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/pages/Celtics-Blog/155256671897?ref=ts ) .  Last night was the first time there were more than one comment in response.

People feel the need to complain more than they feel the need to compliment.  Human nature?  Maybe.

Excellent point, TP and thank you.

I think it's natural to overreact when your favorite team loses a game, though. We tend to do that in the opposite way when it wins (Rondo is the best PG in the league, this team is unstoppable, etc).

I don't understand the concerns about the age of the team though. The lack of athleticism played against the C's and in favor of Atlanta (really athletic) but it's nothing new, the C's struggled against them for the last 3 years.

Overall I'm disappointed that the Celtics lost at home against the Hawks, and that they didn't show real energy and desire on defense (they didn't have the fatigue excuse this time). But we're far away from the end of the world, it's just one game and the season is very long. And gotta admit the Lakers loss made the Celtics one easier to accept. ;D

I always felt this was a 63-19 team anyway so an 8-2 start is about right, maybe a little better than expected. If every so often they play not so great and go 7-3 to 8-2 every ten games the rest of the year, and can gel into a great team come the playoffs, I'll be happy.

Yea...I hated to hear Sheed talk about the Bull's record in the preseason.  There is no reason for this team to try for that mark.  They are old, so get your rest.  As long as they're rested and healthy for the playoffs, that's all that really matters.  Definitely not games in November.  There is a reason the Spurs are routinely thought of as the premier front office in the leauge.  We should take a lesson from them.

Yeah I agree and Atlanta is a pretty darn good team.   They are a year older and starting to figure out how to mesh all that talent but still very young and can improve much more.  Smith, Hortford, and Williams are only 23 and Bibby and Johnson are young enough to be around for a while.  Jamal Crawford is a huge upgrade over Ronald Murray on their bench and Joe Smith was a nice addition.  That team won 47 games last year and could easily win 55 plus games this year I think.

I figured I'd bump this thread as my message never got across first time round.
