why in Ray still in the game. Doc needs to learn when to empty the bench. Hudson, Walker everyone. Also Nice game by Sheed.

Ray played 32 minutes, and the team is coming off a long rest. I think you're being a bit silly. Paul and Rondo played the exact same minutes as Ray, its pretty clear 30-32 is the magic minute number that Doc would like to have all three of them at.

Doc has killed Ray before by playing him 40+ when he didn't have to, he didn't do that tonight.

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
I've got no issue with Ray playing 32 minutes.  I have more of a concern when the minutes approach 38 - 40.

I think Doc did a great job managing the game tonight.

Here is a question about minutes that I am having.  Is there such a thing as playing a guy (of Ray's age) too few minutes?

How does that happen?

I'm on record saying I'd like minutes limited in blowouts due to injury possibility, so I wonder if there's ever a situation where you want or need a valuable guy to play extra minutes in a blowout.

I know Ray said he wanted to get timing and to get into shape a couple weeks ago, but I just think he can do that later and will.

Yes it could have, but its also a separate topic from just the game. *shrug* We've already had 3 "Ray's Minutes threads" iirc. Why not a fourth!

Yes, you want your team to have a certain rhythm and chemistry as different units. Players need to know their roles and when they'll come in on the rotation. If Ray is going to usually play with 3/4 bench players to start the 4th I see nothing wrong with Doc giving that unit a few minutes.

Especially considering the long layoff the C's have had.

Yeah that's the only reason why I called this thread out... there are already so many. I guess somebody should get on making a trade Ray Allen thread now too!   ::)

And I'm on record saying to give it a rest. 32 minutes isn't going to kill anyone. And I can only assume that the Jazz only had bench players out there when Ray finally came out if people like you and Fatjohn need to complain, but for all I know they had 3 starters that were looking to get back into the game ASAP.

Utah still had a few starters in the game when Ray finally left for good, though not for very long.

While watching the game and seeing Ray there I just knew someone was going to come out and start a thread like this. He played 4 minutes in the fourth which had the intensity of a bake sale at the local senior center. There was little to no contact, little to no urgency, little to no effort to do anything but play out the string during those minutes. I'm not even sure Ray was sweating when they brought Hudson out and Ray took his bow and left.
a
He played 32 minutes. My guess is Doc has asked these guys what type of minutes do you feel you need or want in blowouts to keep you rhythm and conditioning from game to game. My guess is the answer was somewhere between 28-32 and that in blowouts, he's going to make sure that Paul, Ray and Rondo get their 31-32 minutes and that Perk and KG will always get their 27-28 or so.

This does seem to be becoming the "go to" gripe.

At the 5 minute mark the C's were playing pretty shaky ball for 2 minutes.  The lead was 17 and Eddie hit a jumper, that for me, sealed the idea that the starters would have to come back in.  I saw sloppy enough play from Lester and co. for a couple of minutes though that I a second of concern (not that we'd lose necessarily, but that we'd have to get some rotation guys back in there).  If I'm thinking that, I'm sure Doc is.

If Doc is erring a minute or two on the side of caution, I don't have an issue with it.
Yup

I agree ... the scoring was balanced and the rotation was just right ... I have very few complaints about Doc so far this year ... especially when it comes to minutes played.
