I'm watching NBA TV, and they had a press conference for the All Star Game in Dallas. Where the Maverick's Dirk, J Kidd, J Terry, Howard, and Marion each selected a player from the eastern conference.

Marion picked LBJ
Howard selected David Lee
J Terry selected Mike Bibby
Dirk picked D Howard
AND Jason Kidd picked our own Rajon Rondo...

i was very excited to see this.

Yea, I thought that was pretty cool...kind of similar situations: pg's without a great shot that rebound, run a team real well, and are a triple double threat every night.

And lol @ Terry voting Bibby...kind of in a tight spot there.

What was the criteria?  I understand the LBJ and Howard picks, and maybe David Lee.  However, Bibby?  Was he being sarcastic, or was hoping to see a great point guard rewarded for his career to date?

As for Rondo, among Eastern point guards, I think he deserves it.  Among Eastern PGs, he's:

* First in assists
* First in assists per minute
* First in FG%
* First in steals
* First in double-doubles (albeit with 2)
* Second in assist-to-turnover ratio
* Fourth in rebounding
* Eleventh in scoring (not great, admittedly, but it's due in part to role)
* 27th in free throw shooting ;)

Roy, it wasn't like a serious thing...it was a tongue in cheek kind of press conference. And good to see Josh Howard living up to his stoner reputation.  ;D

Bibby and Terry played college ball together, right?  Was that why he picked him?  They must be tight.

I didn't think those stats were good enough Roy but as soon as you threw in those FT stats, that convinced me, Rondo's an All-Star. ;) ;D

Wow, 27th amongst PGs IN THE EAST!!! That means like every teams starting guards and 12 teams backup guards all have better FT%'s than Rondo. That's awful. By the same token what has he taken, like 6?

A small streak of 5 shots in a row could leap him up that board!!! Yeah, right. :D

lol it's not like anyone fouls anyone in the All Star game, so who cares about free throws!

I think every coach wishes for a PG like Rondo so he'll get those coaches votes for sure, at least over any other PG in the east.

Did they start the press conference with the singing of our national anthem?   ;)

Rondo's even first in steals in the entire league.

Plus his scoring will go up. Hell, he's only taken 69 shots.

I can think of another point who couldnt shoot very well, rebounded extremely well, passed probably better then anyone ever, and was pretty successful and that was Magic. It's funny, it wasnt but a few short weeks ago we were debating Rondo's worth to this team. Not wether he was or wasnt good but wether he was very good or not and wether he deserved a huge contract. So far, some of those questions have been answered. When his shot comes around, and it will, Rondo will be a very unique player.

I don't count on his shot coming around, but it seems Rondo can some day be as good as Fat Lever.

He's already as good as Lever was, my hope is that his ceiling is higher.
