Whoop, there it is.

Here's some excerpts from his book, "Blowing the Whistle".
http://deadspin.com/5392067/excerpts-from-the-book-the-nba-doesnt-want-you-to-read

Obviously it didn't make it out into the real world, here's an explanation copied from Wikipedia:
Quote
In the federal prison camp in Pensacola, Florida, Donaghy started to write his memoir, Blowing the Whistle: The Culture of Fraud in the NBA. The book was to have covered his NBA career, described his dealings with the "underworld" during the betting scandal and explained how he would determine the winning team in the games he refereed. Donaghy also promised to "discuss the relationship that players, coaches and referees have with each other".[8] The book was due to be published in October 2009. However, Donaghy's publisher, Triumph Books, canceled it due to liability concerns. Pat Berdan, Donaghy's liason with Triumph, said the book was canceled after the NBA threatened legal action--something the NBA denies.

What does this make you guys think? Especially in regard to games in the recent past? Do you think any games were "rigged" like the ones mentioned in the piece in the above link?

Donaghy was just a scapegoat.

David Stern has been the mastermind, screwing NBA fans for decades.

I'm not out to blast the refs. I'm just trying to figure out what to make of all of it.

A mate of mine just coined the phrase "NBA is basketball's WWF". If this is the way they call games, I think that's not too far-fetched to be honest.

It's sad to hear such things from an ex-ref.

I think I misspoke on my "let the blasting begin" statement.

What i meant to say  was I am ready to be blasted by the other posters for my comments, as I assume they still don't think the NBA is rigged

Although I think the NBA has some problems, I would not even begin to believe anything that Donaghy says.  He has zero credibility. So, no matter if there is truth in what he says or not, you have to consider the source.

My bad for jumping to the wrong conclusions sir. Misunderstood. I'd love to blame my knowledge of the language but I'm afraid being tired and just not too bright isn't helping either ;)

God I love self-mockery.

Source considered, I believe that, like in jokes, even stories like this have at least some truth in them.

It doesn't help that there's footage of those games and they're clearly rigged, or just very, very badly officiated...

.edit: and that's 3 out of 6 posts in this topic with my ridiculous face on the side. I'm going to hold silent for a bit now while the topic evolves ;)

Also, not sure if anyone remembers, but I think Ralph Nader at the time was suggesting an inquiry into Kings-Lakers Game 6 because of the appearance that the refs were clearly trying to get the Lakers to tie the series.  When a politician is demanding an inquiry, there is probably some reality to the accusations.

It also doesn't help when David Stern was so quick to try to sweep this under the rug, with the "It was a rogue official so let's all move on.  Seriously, let's move on right now!" stance on the matter.  By most accounts, Donaghy is a jerk and a terrible person, but that doesn't automatically make him a liar about everything.

Nothing will get cleaned up with the officiating until fan interest fades.

Nader brings a wacko factor to the argument but nothing else....He was stating the obvious.

I believe what Donaghy is saying.  It's easy to believe when certain players get officiated according to a different set of rules.....It's easy to fix a moment or a game or a series.

Even if the refs were not involved in anything shady it's still messed up that dick bavetta is racing barkley. It was entertaining as hell but it just gives a bad impression now. there was the ref leaving the game last year w/his kids decked out in chicago bulls gear and he's FROM chicago.
Stern leaving woulld be good for the league. enough is enough.even if nothing is going on why would you risk giving the wrong impression. it's just lazy. if they can help it, i don't think a ref should be alloed to do a game in his home state.
Does anyone know if that's a rule in any of the 4 major sports?

No matter who the commissioner is, they will be hated. Stern leaving would appease fans briefly, but the next man or woman ([dang] I'm progressive) would where out their welcome soon enough.
