If I read the sentiment on this board correctly, the Wolves have been many folks (I know they had been mine)favorite team to root for when not playing the Celtics....Gomes, Big Al, GM McHale and the other players we traded for Ticket all directly or indirectly helped us to a championship. Plus, how can you root against a team that is downtrodden and with good guys on it and who aren't a threat to us?

That all changed for me last night. No,not because these Baby Cs scared us last night and are any threat to us. But rather because of a deep-seated perhaps irrational intense dislike (I hate using the word "hatred") (I used it twice there, didn't I)for former Piston bad boy, and now a member of the Wolves organization, Bill Laimbeer.(Maybe we should call him LAMEbeer.)

Greg Dickerson on the pregame relayed an incident that occurred with Lamebeer prior to the game and seemed a little miffed about it. He said that when introduced to Lamebeer as a Boston media person Mr Class himself looked at Dickerson and said "F___ Boston" dismissively. By the way Dickerson reacted, he seemed genuinely shocked and offended and it seemed like the encounter ended abruptly and there was no further interview or discussion.

Again, maybe old sentiments die hard and I'm being irrational, but I can't (despite my rooting for Big Al and Gomes)root for this team with this mook associated with them.

I don't care about the Wolves so adding this jerk off hasn't helped them much in my eyes. Most hated player and team (Pistons) off all time in my book.

I do miss them however.
Peace through Tyranny

Laimbeer is and always was a fake tough guy.  He is the kind of guy that will play rough when he knows there are people there to break stuff up.  But, if he were on the street playing one on one with Bird or Barkley, etc. he'd be a Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.cat...sometimes without the cat part.

Well its hard to root for Rambis and Lambeer.
"Sam Cassell was heckling on the sideline when I walked down, He looked at me and was like, ‘You're getting the ball, I know you're getting the ball!'
said Allen.

And did Cassell, a man of many words, have anything to say after that?

"No, I told him he needed to wear a tie."

Nah, not at all.  I root for Rambis and Laimbeer all the time.  I root for them to get hit by a bus or to fall off a cliff.  I root for them to step into traffic or slip into an active volcano.

Okay, this may be a little over the top.   ;)

I can root against Lambeer.
I find it hard to root against Rambis.  He reminds me too much of Milhouse (from the Simpsons).  i just feel sorry for him.

Celtics fan for life.

I'm one of the few Celtic fans who really like Laimbeer.  He's a wiseguy and I think that comment was meant to be funny.  As for being a fake tough guy, I don't think so.  He gave a lot of cheap shots but he took a lot of body contact and never backed down from a fight.  I know Parish knocked him out with a cheap shot, but Laimbeer totally killed Barkley in a fight- not an easy thing to do, I wouldn't think.

My least favorite NBA player of all time. Just can't stand him.

But I feel where your coming from. I still like Gomes and Big Al, not so much the Timberwolves.

Great player but he is too ahead of himself to be making comments like that. I don't like him as much and I don't think I ever did, but you got to respect the man.

Well, I'd much rather see that demeanor from a guy who's always seen us as the enemy than that nauseating pre-game kiss scenario between his equally classless teammate and the narcissistic Earvin Johnson.

I'll also add that it's no coincidence that with these two on Minny's coaching staff you see a completely different team.  They are outmanned and battled us even.  Rambis and Laimbeer know  the rivalry.

I don't like Laimbeer, but I think his reaction to Dickerson is priceless.  I can imagine his face after Laimbeer said that.

It would be easier to root for the Wolves if the Piston and Laker weren't there, but no matter what I will always root for Big Al and Gomes.  I love the way they play the game and the way they carry themselves.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

Maybe when Minnesota returns to Boston, Parish can kick Laimbeers tailbone like he did in the 1987 playoffs, game 5 1 minute to go in the 1st half.
Wins are few, times are hard. Here is your bleeping St Patricks Day Card.

While I don’t condone Laimbeer’s comments to Dickerson, this mentality is good for sports and the NBA. I’m sure he knows that any Boston media person will want to talk to him about the great rivalry with the Celtics. And, I’m sure Laimbeer genuinely hated those Celtics teams and resents the Franchise.

As a fan, I like seeing that. If KG is introduced to an LA Lakers media rep in 10 years, I’m sure he knows the guy is going to want to talk about how great it was for KG to play against the great Lakers team that won the 2009 NBA Championship. I’m hoping KG has the same mentality as Laimbeer at that time, “I really hated those guys and wanted to beat them every time I played them.”

Laimbeer has never been subtle about being a jerk. The fact that he brings that into coaching should enhance the character of that team and put a much needed chip on their shoulder.

Also, I give Laimbeer a ton of credit for the coaching route he took. He was one of the first NBA guys to humble himself and take an opportunity in the WNBA. Not a lot of ex-NBA players, let alone stars, would do that.
