Plus if we win a championship Marquis is gone.

I wouldn't make that assumption at all. He very possibly could stay for the full MLE.

The only reason he took less money to come here was becuase if he is a big part of a championship team, he could really get some $$$$ the next year.

But i'd love it if i'm wrong.

I think they should spend another MLE to resign Daniels long term, assuming that Daniels continues to play well.

It shouldn't take the full MLE for Daniels, as he was going to sign a multi-year deal for arount $3M or so, wasn't he? Maybe they could split it between him ans Sheldon Williams for 2 years.

Are we going to need the MLE to re-sign Daniels?  Don't we have his Bird rights?

We don't have his Bird rights, or even his "early Bird" rights.  As a "non-Bird", we can offer him a contract beginning at 120% of his previous deal, meaning we could give him roughly $2.4 million without having to use the MLE.  That may not be enough to get it done.

Yes, same deal with Shelden.

This is why I’m in favor of using the contracts of Scal TA and or Giddens to trade for a guy making something around the mid-level with limited years left – I’d mentioned Gazduric as part of a deal in another post, but whoever. If they’re willing to pay the tax to stay competitive, I think it will be key to have an expiring deal around each year from a non-core player as insurance should they need to go out and take talent off a competitive or financially struggling team. We will have Baby’s next year if we don’t trade him, but not many teams are desperate to unload a $3million guy.

According to Marc Spears' Twitter, Rajon Rondo will make $9 mill '10-11, $10 mill '11-12, $11 mill '12-13, $12 mil, '13-14, and $13 million '14-15, according to source (Link).

If this is true, then maybe Danny had it structured in a way that would give us more cap room in the next couple of seasons, as opposed to a straight up $11m each season. I don't know that much about cap room, but I can only assume the extra couple of million next season and $1m the season after could help us?

This is what I said all along. It's most likely backloaded. This isn't a surprise since most contracts are backloaded. Very few contracts are frontloaded (Marcus Camby, when Denver thought they wouldn't have cap space anyway for the first few years of the contract) or flat (Gerald Wallace), since people like raises.

I'm surprised to see there aren't any incentives. I would have thought it could include things like making the all-star or all-defensive teams.

IMHO Daniels will command the full MLE or close to it in the open market.  There is no way he will take the biannual exception next year.  He's quite a good player (if you hadn't noticed).

He is a really good gel player, nice to have off our bench and SUCH an upgrade from TA, Sam or Marbury.  I would think Danny has it on his list to resign him for a nice time period.

somehow...this sounds vaguely disgusting.  :P

Basically, yeah.  We can technically offer him a 20% raise over next year's minimum deal (rather than his current deal), but it's essentially the same.
