For all it's worth, anyways....

Quote
Although the past few days have been mostly quiet on the contract front for Boston Celtics guard Rajon Rondo, both sides are expected to connect Sunday for one last attempt to come together on a new deal before Monday's deadline for contract extensions for members of the 2006 draft class, according to sources close to the process.

I've said it once, I'll say it again; let Rondo earn his contract this year and the C's will pay him handsomely. But, if the C's feel they can pay him now (tomorrow, whenever...), so be it.

I wish we could lock him up now, but for the money hes asking we should probably let him earn it first.

If we don't sign him now, I won't be worried. We are honestly going to be competing with ourselves next offseason when it comes to Rondo.

I dunno... there is no guarantee that some team will offer Rondo more money in the offseason... especially considering that any team that offers him a contract will know that the Celtics will match.  Teams might not even bother.

Unless he is willing to take a pretty sizeable discount there really isn't any reason to not let him play out the year. We'll match almost anything someone throws out there. If he gets severely injured we don't get the shaft. He plays out of his mind for that big payday this year. He limits his "bad Rondo" games dramatically which allows us a better shot at a championship. If he signs the one year tender after this season we win twice… He isn't a 100% sure thing like a Deron Williams, Tony Parker, or Chris Paul, so there is no reason paying him now like he is.

Solid.

Right way to look at it.

TP.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

The reason Rondo is playing so well is because he doesn't have his deal yet.

Once you give him the deal, he loses motivation and incentive to play the way he has been playing. (It's just natural to let down after you achieve a goal.)

I guess, but Rondo has been going full speed since he came into the league. Rondo likes to be good, so I don't think he is going to just let down. People always assume all players are going to be great in a contract year, but different players have different personalities. While some guys are great, others don't handle the pressure well and have it on their mind the whole year. It just makes sense to lock him up now, especially since they are so close.

I hope they sign Rondo now. So when I come to the CelticsBlog I don't see 4 to 5 topics conserning Rondo's contract. ;)
Other than that I have no problem waiting till the offseason. Unless the C's don't match another teams offer and he walks.  >:(

That's based on the assumption that Rondo's only (or main) goal is to get a contract and not to win games or to improve as a player.

only problem with this theory is that a team could offer rondo big big money and assume to build a team around him.  He isn't chris paul but as I've stated many times...besides Paul I wouldn't trade rondo even up for ANY point guard in the league.  His upside is actually scary, as someone put in another post a mini kg

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I'd offer Rondo 55 million and just say take it or leave it. I think he's looked better than Parker and Harris when they were in the same stage in their careers. I was saying 45 Million earlier, but watching him play has me wanting to lock him up now.

I say get it done now. It is not out of the realm of possibility for Rondo to get a max offer from a team in the off season, and that would wreak havoc with our payroll. Get it done now, Danny.

Rondo for 10-11m a year is an absolute steal.

Why wait until the offseason and get forced into matching a max offer?
