I've been a little dumbfounded by the media coverage for Rajon Rondo during the first two games of the season.  I've heard things such as "outstanding" and "downright brilliant."  While I think he's been solid, these descriptions don't come to my mind right away.

So far Rajon's averaging 9 points, 10.5 assists, and 4.5 rebounds.  The assists are the only numbers that I would say are where I expect them to be for Rajon this year.  I think his points and rebounds should be higher.

From the eye test, he has again been just solid over the first two games.  His defense has been solid, and disruptive at times.  He's been going to the basket hard and knocking down a few outside shots.  He's been good, not outstanding or brilliant.

This is not a post to bash Rajon.  He is my favorite player and he is off to a good start.  I just think the media is undermining him by saying how great he's playing.  Last year's playoffs were great.  The beginning of this year has been good.  I guess what I'm basically saying is that I expect a lot out of Rajon and expect his game and numbers to increase over the next month or so.  Then what superlatives will they be saying about him?
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

I think he's been awesome.  Perfect for what this team needs.  He's been running the team flawlessly and we get great shots when he's out there.  Assists = high, turnovers= low.  Defense has been fine.  It's amazing how much nitpicking is going on with Rondo.  I'm not sure what the expectations are with this guy.

You are dumbfounded by the media hyping Rondo and you are here to challenge it.. interesting.

Well I disagree and believe he's been dominant(I own that word) and you are missing a lot if you are using stats to back your claim.

I don't think there is another point guard in the entire league that would be a better fit for this team.  And yes, I'm including Chris Paul and Deron Williams.  There aren't 20 shots available for the point guard position, as these guys like to take.

If Rondo averages over 10 assists a game he has had a great season. I bet his numbers year end will be 15 ppg/ 11 assists/ 7 boards and 2 steals. Those are Jason Kidd type numbers (when he was good).
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

It is an incredible start. 64.3 FG%, 5 RPG, and 10.5 APG. In only 32min, those numbers are impressive. Ainge c'mon son, give him his money.

I guess the counterpoint to this comment would be who did Kidd play with and were they really comparable to rondo's teammates.  And depending on your answer to that question you might wonder if those teammates of rondo's are taking a few stats from him.

Let's calm down here, all of us: media, fans, etc.

Ever hear of a little thing I like to call SAMPLE SIZE?!

I love Rondo more than most people (it's a frequent argument in my house that, if my wife and I ever have twins that they are being named Larry Bird and Rajon Rondo) -- and I think it's a no-brainer to lock up your 23 year old borderline all-star Point Guard.

But let's let him play a few games before we start determining his progress.

Rondo's job is to run the team.  He has been outstanding because of the way he gets very one involved and on the same page, controls the pace of the game, and most importantly helps us win the game.

Rondo could average 25 if he wanted to, he just knows that thats not whats best for our team.  If we win and rondo scores zero points, he is still doing his job.

I've been dumbfounded by their reaction to the first two games he played.  I've been the one giving him the hype.

I figured this post might be taken the wrong way.  Like I said, I think he's been very good for this team, very early in the season.  I was just surprised to see the descriptions in the media being so glowing because I think he is just getting started and he is going to perform better.

I think Rondo has been very good overall so far; I'd give him a solid A- to this point, and it's only not an A because of a couple of boneheaded plays in the Cleveland game.  If he keeps this up, and steps up a little more when necessary (hasn't been so far), we'll be very, very tough to beat.

But I gotta say, it's really nice to see a thread on CB bashing the media for overhyping one of our guys  :)

I'm withholding judgement until tonights game... it'll be a real test. I wasn't enamored with his play against Cleveland, and the Bobcat game was a joke.

There are some encouraging sings though here and there, particularly on the defensive side of things. I still think he has a bit of trouble sliding in a defensive posture to stop penetration, but there has been less gambling.

My mistake I thought you were saying he didn't deserve the props he was getting from media. If it's just that you are dumbfounded because they see it like you and than I agree.

They don't see it like me.  I don't think he's been outstanding or downright brilliant yet.  Those words have been used in the papers.  I think eventually he will be, but he hasn't been yet.
