What I like about Shelden Williams

Williams looked surprisingly confident shooting the jumper tonight - I think Doc gave him the greenlight to start looking for it.  His stroke looked a lot better than the few clumsy attempts I'd seen him put up in prior games.  If he starts hitting those shots we become that much more dangerous.

Shelden seems like the ultimate professional. I like that a lot.

He also rebounds like a mug and his d-rotations are so much better than Mikey Moore's that it chokes me up a little.

He was the 5th pick just a few years ago--usually those guys are drafted that high for a reason (as long as they are not 7'0 footers, Patrick O'Bryant, Michael Olowakandi etc.). He makes me just a little bit excited every time he does something that you see a really great player do against other teams' best players--like that one handed rebound in traffic that he put back up and in. What a dirty play. If Lebron did that Mike Breen would probably start jacking it right away, totally unable to control himself hahaha.

Tommy sure agrees with those of us who feel that Shelden could keep BBD on the pine. Tonight in his broadcast he said Shelden would be very difficult to dislodge. He didn't name BBD but it was pretty clear what he meant.

11 pts, 7 boards, and the 3rd highest + stats while out there tonight behind only Sheed and Daniels. This guy is going to be very easy to root for.

I heard that too.  Tommy also mentioned that the big that plays with Sheed needs to rebound well since Sheed takes so many threes.  This was said shortly after the dislodge comment, and Tommy stressed the word rebound.

Another thing Tommy said was that Rondo has the potential to be a hall of fame player, while sebsatian telfair would be lucky to be a starter on any team in the NBA.   Nice to hear, I remember rooting for Rondo desperately 3 years ago as he was collecting garbage time minutes behind Telfair and West.

He had another solid outing tonight.  I think those of us who thought Baby had a better outside shot than LL are mistaken. They have about the same range, the same accuracy, but Sheldon has a higher and just as fast release point.  Not even close on the rebounds. This could turn out to be a huge pick up by Ainge. Way to go, Danny.

Williams has also been surprisingly nifty on the pick and roll, although I think Baby still has the edge on him offensively.  Don't forget about Baby.  With Sheed drawing the bigger, better defenders, Baby will be a nice post-up option, as unlike Shelden he can score and pass from the block.  That's a good option to have when so much of the 2nd unit is perimeter oriented.

Does Baby like to play with his back to the basket?

Baby is faster and has more finishing moves, but Williams allows Sheed to save his strength for defense.

I'm liking Sheldon more each game. Now that I've made peace with the hands of stone issue. He's working hard, playing smart and making good use of his playing time now. Can't ask for more really considering what I expected when he was signed.

imo williams is a better fit for the 4th big than davis.  davis spreads the floor but with sheed out there we don't need that.  we need a banger and sheldon is just that.

imo glen's role may just be to body up the bigger centers if/when perk gets into foul trouble against them.

If this trend continues, and we can lock up Sheldon for a couple of years, I would not be surprised to see Celtics package Baby with expiring contracts (Tony, Scal, Giddens) to get a young 2 who can shoot the lights out and replace Ray next year when his contract expires.

I'm beginning to really love Shelden too.  He's not expected to do more than he is capable of doing here, and he's excelling at it. 

This is giving boston some expendable pieces if a great trade does become available, but i really like our team as a whole and our big rotations are really solid.

Actually, i dont think i'd change any of our rotations for the world.  I just wish we had a couple more 'solid, high potential future' pieces at the end of the bench instead of tony, giddens, and maybe even scal, but hey, cant be greedy.  And besides, their expirings could turn into a young future star or another rotation player if injury happens.

I'm just giddy to be a C's fan right now.

I think we should wait until later in the season then lock him up. Maybe something a little south of Scals deal 2.5 million a year for 5 years. He's young, smart, a good rebounder, and a hard nose defender. Perfect for what this team does.

Granted it is early in the season, but, at 20.79, Sheldon has the 11th best PER among power forwards in the NBA, and 50th best overally. Not too shabby. His PER is higher than any Celtic other than Pierce, Eddie and Rondo.

Williams just looks so good out there right now, I don't know what else to say. Other than his stone hands, he's looked good.

He's almost leading the team in boards off the bench, I think. I don't know how much longer he can keep up this level of play, but I hope he can all season. When Baby gets back, I don't think I've ever seen so much depth up front.

He's played extended minutes in 3 blowout game against the second- and third-stringers of awful teams. What did you expect?!

Shelden has shown to be a  huge addition to his team; He has played better than expected. Funny that it took Baby  a stupid move to allow Shelden to prove his mettle. many discoveries just happen by accident; no pun intended, but Babys's really opened a window for shelden and we are the better for it.Thank you Baby, you did something wrong for our benefit. Shelden would have lingered at end of bench if Baby had been more responsible. Now we sre so much better. Good.
