What I like about Shelden Williams

I have to agree.  He has really stepped up and filled in nicely.  He needs to lose that case of the Blount Hands he gets once in a while, but other than that he's good.

It is nice to see Williams getting to the line like Powe and rebounding like Powe. Of course, Powe has much better post moves, but Williams has a jumper.

In his entire tenure as a Celtic, I haven't seen any post moves by Powe. His best post move was the offensive rebound. Or hustling up the court for a wide open layup.

I too have been pleasantly surprised with Williams' play of late.

But, let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. Williams is 6' 9", listed at 250 pounds, and doesn't have a whole lot of lift. I'm fine with him as a backup PF, but I think the team needs another legit 7-footer to back up Sheed at the C, especially considering that our road to the Finals will likely require us beating both Orlando and Cleveland in the playoffs.

I'd love to turn some of our expiring money into a veteran 7-footer with a mean streak and 6 hard fouls. A Brad Miller type.

I love it. Every team needs a couple bodies that bang around and get rebounds. Its nice to have someone besides Perk doing this.

We would have a problem right now if Powe was on the roster and Williams wasn't now that Baby is out. Though I suppose we could have had them both and not signed Hudson.

The Celtics have enough length.  And with Davis, they have enough bulk.

They have 6 big men that can all fit into roles to complement each other. 

I think the Celtics (barring a nightmarish rash of injuries) are in the best shape at the 4/5 in years. 

Their depth weakness is the 1/2/3 where they have only two guys for three positions that you can really feel comfortable with.

TP and a co-sign. The people who think Williams should be scoring 20 a night, also, leave me scratching my head. The above is why he was brought in, and he's delivering, playing the game in an intelligent way.

Tommy sure agrees with those of us who feel that Shelden could keep BBD on the pine. Tonight in his broadcast he said Shelden would be very difficult to dislodge. He didn't name BBD but it was pretty clear what he meant.

11 pts, 7 boards, and the 3rd highest + stats while out there tonight behind only Sheed and Daniels. This guy is going to be very easy to root for.

He had another solid outing tonight.  I think those of us who thought Baby had a better outside shot than LL are mistaken. They have about the same range, the same accuracy, but Sheldon has a higher and just as fast release point.  Not even close on the rebounds. This could turn out to be a huge pick up by Ainge. Way to go, Danny.

Williams has also been surprisingly nifty on the pick and roll, although I think Baby still has the edge on him offensively.  Don't forget about Baby.  With Sheed drawing the bigger, better defenders, Baby will be a nice post-up option, as unlike Shelden he can score and pass from the block.  That's a good option to have when so much of the 2nd unit is perimeter oriented.
