In all honesty, I got a bit distracted during the game so I might've missed a few things.

Overall, I didn't like our defensive effort. I think we got a bit lucky that Cleveland's offense was a bit disorganized. But Cleveland was a bit lucky themselves with LeBron really making shots. For the most part we kept him from getting to the hoop. I thought we did a poor job of putting bodies between himself and basket though... often with just one defender inbetween. Luckily he didn't take advantage of this throughout the game, but he did start penetrating towards the end of the game. Rondo was having a bit of trouble keeping up with Mo too. Our defensive communitcation has to get better... saw quite a few miscommunications between Rondo, Pierce, KG, Perk, and Williams a different points in the game, but that's expected at this stage of the season.

Penetration, where was our penetration? This is a huge disappointment for me since with the addition of Wallace I really thought Rondo, Pierce, and Daniels would really take advantage of the situation and penetrate like crazy. Is this a play calling problem? A spacing problem? A willfullness of the player problem?

Three-point shooting, we took quite a bit of 3-pointers, and we made them. Really liked them. I can see our team falling in love with it (which in part was what gave Cleveland an opportunity to come back), but overall I really like the 3-point shooting in this team. It should eventually lead to the increase penetration I'm looking for.

Bench, really liked our bench. They put a good defensive effort, and can surely score the ball when needed. Little to complain about it at the moment.

KG, liked what I saw. Clearly not fully ready yet. But if he's at 60%, I can't wait to see him when he gets 40% more healthy.

Fastbreak scoring... I think we need to do a better job on passing the ball in a timely manner for those transition 3s. Ray Allen was missed quite a few times to get a rhythm 3. Also, man we need to do a better job drawing a foul instead of showing the ball to get blocked.

Pierce looked fairly quick with the ball, having decent success blowing by his defender when he decided to do so. He did the same last year during this time of the year, and by the end of the season he wasn't having the same type of success, as far as speed was concerned. Let's see if he can keep up with the speed this time.

Even though Ray missed a few money shots, I think he should've made. But overall I thought his shot and form looked good, so going forward the shots should start going in.

Perkins overall was quiet... and scored a quiet 9 points. Needs to be more active in the rebound department. Don't remember his turnovers so I can't comment, but 3 seems high for him in 26 minutes.

Shelden Williams put in a solid effort, played his role well overall... had some missed opportunities, but he made his free-throws.

Ray 42 minutes, Pierce 38, Daniels 18 minutes. First game, so I don't care, but it's worth mentioning to see if the pattern continues which I highly doubt. No Scal also, first game against Cleveland so understandable. Still, worth mentioning considering what went on last year.

Rasheed Wallace, really liked him even though he had a quick trigger at times. Good defensive effort.

Would've liked to see Giddens for a bit just to see how he handles LeBron. It would've been a good test for him, and a good opportunity for Doc to get a better measure of his defensive capabilities.

Eddie House seemed to be rushing his shots a bit. He was money during preseason, so let's hope he can regain that. Same thing happened last year. He's controling the ball more than I would like. Keep the ball in Daniels hands... isn't that supposed to be the plan?

Overall, I thought we played a poor game... we can certainly do much better, yet we came out on top. Scary.

Daniels > Moon.

I agree with most of this.

I personally don't need to see what Giddens can do against LB James, we had a preseason for that sort of thing and Giddens got torched.  As far as I'm concerned, I've seen enough of Giddens unless it's garbage time.

Hard to knock a defense that held the Cavs to under 90, but your point is well taken, they could be better.  Still love the way the Truth defends LB James.

Penetration against a team with Shaq down low will be limited, and result in a greater number of 3s.  Par for the course, you'll see the same thing against the Portlands and Orlandos of the world.

Cavs look like the Suns last year, the team identity looks shaken with the addition of a big, slow, demanding bigman.  You can thank Mr. Brown for last night, a totally inept offensive coach who can't figure out how to make these pieces work together yet.

I was 5 years old the last time the C's had a bench like this.  I also think last night was a bellwether for how little this whole Glen Davis drama will actually matter...not so much.

Earth to Doc: please reduce the minutes of KG and Ray, rather than focus on breaking any new consecutive game records this year.  Just sow up HCA, that is all

Random thought: I know it's early, but I hope we don't match up with Washington in Round 1.

Ghost out.

Didn't watch the game. Good to know. Who were on the floor with him though? That's just as important, particularly the bigs. Of course, not complaining for not playing him, just saying that I would've liked to see it.

Yep, even so right? And considering that I thought that the Cleveland offense was a bit of a mess, it does dissapoint me a bit.

Another thing I forgot about. Another slow start by our team. This is something the need to cleanup as it has been often a problem for us.

I think of all games, this is one to give them serious minutes in.
1.  It let's KG get the rust off.
2.  We have an easy game next, that they can limit their minutes in.
3.  If it comes to a tie-breaker at the end of the year, it will be nice to have wins over the Cavs and Orlando.  Especially away from the Garden.

That being said, I would like to see their minutes in the mid 20's tonight.  Let Perkins and Shelden get some serious minutes this evening.

I'd like to see Paul and Ray's minutes reduced too. KG at 33 seems ok. I think we need another wing.

They shot too many jump shots, particularly in the second half.  They need to penetrate and/or post up more.

Also, they didn't run enough.  That's how you negate players like Ilgauskas and Shaq.

But good interior defense makes up for alot of other sins, and the Celtics played very good interior defense last night.

Daniels is probably >>>>>>>>>> Nochioni, too

Daniels can play!  I'm turning into a [dang] Quisy fanboy.  No wonder they wanted to lock him up longer term, even if it meant giving him some more $$.

No to Giddens.  He didn't show enough in preseason to warrant getting any kind of regular season minutes.  I'd like us to have another veteran wing on the bench, if only because I can't help but remember how injury prone Daniels has been.

So far, Giddens looks like a poor man's Tony Allen, and remember - Tony Allen's already a pretty poor man!

I laughed out loud at this, and figured this would be as good place to post this as any.

It's a positive we're getting CLEV fans to react this way anyway :D

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
Without getting into everything, I definitely disagree with this:

Giddens didn't look great against scrubs in the pre-season.  We don't need him cutting his teeth in an important, close regular season game.

I didn't like how the Celtics offense looked when the starting lineup was on the floor. I thought they struggled to create space. Perk's man was allowed to hang back in the paint, and Mo Williams was helping off of Rondo. It made it difficult for the Big Three to get good looks at the rim. It was especially annoying when KG had Big Z on him but couldn't find enough space to drive on the big fella.

Bright side was that the spacing looked a lot better with Rasheed on the floor. I thought it looked better when he was alongside either Perkins or Garnett. Wallace was a lot more aggressive than KG in looking for his shot on the perimeter which I think was the difference. I expect Garnett will be more trigger happy on that 20-22 footer the more he plays. I thought he was unusually passive in taking that shot last night.

Our bench was insane.
Shelden really stepped up, I think that will really help alleviate the loss of BBD.
Practice? Whatchu talkin about practice?

To me, the biggest plus is Rasheed Wallace. He is going to help us in so many ways. He is perfect coming off the bench, hitting a couple of threes, getting some tough rebounds, defending bigs.

Positives : Seeing Danny Ainge healthy and already coaching ('foul shaq') from the stands.  The way this guy creates a team, well, we need him healthy for the next 20 years.  Sheed + Daniels is huge for this team. Did I say HUGE?  The bench in itself has been upgraded and is a huge positive for this team.  Even Shelden Williams can come in and contribute.

Negatives : Too many outside shots.  Not much penetration when spacing was somewhat decent.  Perkins.  Perk is a better player than what he showed last night. Still early.

Overall, I see no reason why #18 doesn't happen this year.  I agree with Doc.  The C's are champions this year once again.  And its all because your GM is smart and knows how to field a team.  When you have backups such as Daniels and Sheed coming in for 20 minutes, well, this team will be extremely tough to beat night in and night out.

Very happy to see a competitive game at the Q. The win was extremely sweet icing on the cake

Ray is the oldest member of the big 3 I know he’s in great shape but seeing him play the most minutes always makes me uneasy.

It’s great to see KG back I was smiling the whole time in his post-game interview

My newest binkie Sheldon exceeded my low expectations. Needs some serious work on those hands though

FT shooting was good. Some of the preseason numbers were truly horrifying

Nice first game. Hope they build on that tonight and put away those pesky Bobcats.
