Interesting to hear that the talks are not dead but I don't think Rondo will sign an extension before the deadline. Who knows, though, I would be glad if the C's secured him for 5 years, 50 million.

I find it weird how everyone here thinks posturings a bad move and are claiming Bill Duffy's an idiot. I've been following his career for a while and that man's a genius. And doesn't the fact that Danny asked him to renegotiate mean it's a good thing?

I'm not trying to play devil's advocate or anything, but here's the guy who signed an endorsement deal for Yao...before he signed Yao! And then managed to convince Yao to join he because of it (it was McDonalds).

To be fair to Duffy his hands may a little bit tied at the moment.  He knows whether Rondo is really willing to leave the deal on the table and play it out or not.

My guess is that Duffy was pretty pumped that he got a starting offer of 9 a year instead of 8 and so when he came back with the 55 or 60 he was expecting the 50 and Ainge didn't come with it.

He probably knows Rondo is going to take the 45 mil by Sat. so he has to try and do what he can in the time he has to get that offer up or convince Rondo to play it out.

What you have to do is pay attention to who is talking and assume the opposite.  It is difficult in the moment and that is why agents do it and get the world talking.  But Duffy did what he did to try and create an environment were something has to be done, because he knows something has to be done.

If what he was saying was true, that Rondo was going to play it out if he didn't get paid like a top 5 pg why say that to the media?  How does it help if you don't plan on negotiating a deal till June?  Just sit back and say nothing and let Boston answer why aren't they making an offer to Rondo?

His agent is talking because Rondo wants it done.

Or Rondo simply says if it's done, it's done. If not, then he'll play it out.

So obviously the agent would try, since the agent gets paid too don't forget. If it's not directly against his agents wishes, he can do it.

I trust Duffy though. I've always liked BDA, and Duffy does have some high profile clients that he's done well for (most notable being Nash and Yao, as well as Brandon Jennings)
