I am mentioning the twitter feed... Mr. Ford, I was disappointed with how you misinterpreted the Celtics-Rondo situation on twitter, calling it "ANOTHER hit job" by Doc Rivers. For one, Rondo has responded to the summer "stuff" with remarkable maturity thus far. Maybe Doc and Danny have a better pulse on the situation than your speculation. And two, the Celtics will address many things after this season, and I am sure Ainge will evaluate Ray Allen's situation, Pierce's, and even KG, in addition to Rondo. Perhaps Danny and Doc needed to use a different medium this summer to get through to Rondo, and it seemed like so much of Danny's honesty was taken out of context, and not given equal weight to Danny's praise of Rondo. What we do know is Danny and Doc have called Rondo the best player in training camp, and then you take Doc's recent tongue in cheek comments out of context. What do YOU think their strategy was/is?

Chad Ford  (1:10 PM)

Can you think of another team who has publicly taken multiple shots at their young, potential franchise player ... even if they were tongue in cheek? Could you imagine the Cavs doing it to LeBron? Or the Hornets to Chris Paul? Or even the Nuggets to Carmelo Anthony? Players are sensitive and I have it on very good authority that Rondo was VERY hurt by what went down this summer. Word's just come in that he won't be signing an extension ... unless the Celtics come up with big time money for him next summer, he's going to find a way to leave.

Have to agree, this summer's rondo situation was not handled well at all, no matter how you try to spin it.

i agree. i know why they did it but i think it was a failure. in the best case scenario they now sign rondo for a minimum of 70mil after the knicks offer him something stupid, and in the worst case they lose him, either next summer or the summer after. Why not just sign him to a 60mil deal now?

because rondo's made it clear he's not signing that deal right now?

He is going to test restricted free agency. 30 teams offering deals is better than 1 team offering 60 million over 5.

I think that his agent said he wasn't signing now because they weren't close in salary and it was rumored that he wants $55M-$60M.

Rondo's made it clear that he's not signing what Celtics offerred now. If the gave him the 60 mill he would've signed it.

Im not saying they should have done it, just saying I think that was the argument he was making.

I would have preferred if they signed him though, to the tune of around 50-55 million (with incentives included, with no incentives being around 48-52)

I love Rondo to death, but did Chad Ford just compare him to CP3, Lebron and Carmelo? Forget how I feel, I wonder what those guys are saying. Maybe they're making jokes how Rondo can get on their level if he makes Team USA in '10 or even '12.

Rondo's not our #1 guy NOW, and hasn't proven to the Celtics that he should be anointed such in the future YET. Bad analogy by Chad Ford.

Besides, have either of those three guys been late for a PLAYOFF game, assuming that was actually true for Rondo? Or am I just supposed to assume they were and we never heard about it just because it'd be more convenient to shut up about that?

Sorry Ford, you're gonna need more than that to make me turn head.

Rondo's going to have to have a great year to make $60 million next year. He wouldn't get type of offer this year if he was out in RFA.

Can't wait until KG gets to 100% Supernova!!!

To explain for those who are having a hard time understanding the Celtics decision:

No one knows what Rondo will be offered next year. No one. It will be influenced by his performance this year. If he plays well enough to demand a ridiculous contract, it is likely the Celtics would be willing to pay that. The are not willing to gamble it seems, especially since Rondo will only be an RFA next season and they have leverage.

If you throw money at him at he disappoints due to his lack of accountability and long term insurance, then you wasted money and hurt the team.

This is not a big deal.

Also, always keep in mind that we can offer better contracts than other teams, and we can match their contracts.

"Word out of Boston" = "Bill Simmons"

Anybody who has watched KG play knows that he's much, much healthier than 60%.  Seriously, add another 40% to KG's current game, and you're talking best player in recent NBA history.

TP for that.

i didn't like the way Ainge publicly criticized Rondo over the summer - what does it accomplish to drag him over the coals in the press ?

sit the guy down and treat him like an adult. if he has issues, tell him to his face. i'm ok with not offering the bank just yet .......... but don't insult one of your best players and possible alienate him from the franchise.

There is a difference between insulting him, and giving constructive criticism.  Ainge gave criticism.  Doc does it all the time.
