This will be interesting as it plays out. If Rondo turns it down the numbers will surely be leaked before long. Then next summer, Ainge will be watching what other teams offer in a down economy. Very few teams are going to offer him more than Devon Harris money if he doesnt have an All Star season. The fact that he gets his numbers playing next to three of the top players in the game who are future HOF players will be factored in. He is not the type of player than can carry a team alone like a Pierce or C3Po.

Point is, Rondo could easily end up with less money next season.

Remeber that Devin Harris averaged 10/3/4 the year before he signed his deal and was nowhere near being an all-star. Also, Rondo's numbers are generally a little better, not worse, when one or more of the big three are out. It's not like they raise his stats.
Its hard to say what would his numbers be without the big 3. Rondo's weakness requires a certain sort of team around him, otherwise he wouldn't be nearly as effective.

*shrug* Hopefully we'll know more soon.
Like people who can hit a jumper. ;D ;D

I disagree that they dont raise his stats, especially his assist numbers. They also spread the floor so he can attack the rim. I do give him credit for the rebounds, he earns them.

As to D Harris contract, that was in a much better economy and was a 'justification for trade move' by management that has proven to be a good investment. Harris just plain had more leverage and was in a better negotiating position IMO.

As to the length and amount of contract being offered...let the speculation begin!   ::)

What kind of team does he require? One with some decent outside shooters? Like almost everyone else when he has the ball more his numbers will go up.

5 years/50-55 million, is my best guess.
I don't believe they'll offer the max length contract to Rondo, but it will be more than 3-4.
Practice? Whatchu talkin about practice?

3 years for $27M ($8M, $9M, $10M) and then a player option for the 4th year at $11M is fair and smart.  That would be a total of 4 years at an average of $9.5M if he plays it out.  I think that is pretty fair for a hyper-active PG who can't shoot yet and doesn't totally hog-tie the Celtics salary cap flexibility either.

I have a feeling though that the Celtics are offering less than this and Rondo is looking for more.  I wouldn't go any higher than this.

Rondo would probably get more assists on a different team because KG and PP are good passers for their positions so they swing the ball more often when he passes to them instead of just shooting. Harris signed his contract with Dallas well before they traded him.

Teams with good shot blockers or that put defenders on him with instructions to just stay completely off him until he gets near the paint. Rondo is too easily neutralized in many cases when they do this. His scoring would go up if he took more shots and used more posessions, but I feel his efficiency would go down markedly.

Rondo's lack of any sort of shot that team's must respect means he needs shooting around him, lots of it. Even then teams can easily ignore him in the halfcourt game and use his man as a double teamer.

Either way I think his value is very hard to judge because of all these issues.

We will not know that he gets more assists for sure until we see what kind of team he joins, that is still speculation and open for debate. He surely will not have the scoring numbers with any efficiency until he improves his FT shooting and jump shot significantly. That will clearly hurt his market value, will it not?

The contract had to be signed as a condition of the trade or NJ doesnt agree to let Jason Kidd go to Dallas. The money Harris got was partially dictated by NJ to help salaries match. It had to be a number NJ could live with. Any delay was in getting Kidd to agree to the terms.

I think this is just a bit of a spin thing.  They are making an offer that will likely be decent, but nowhere near what Rondo is asking for.  That way Rondo will refuse it, the C's will say they tried, and things will disapear for a while.

Then at some point, the number for the offer will "leak" out, and everyone will get on Rondo for being greedy.

Sure, Rondo needs to hit his jumpers and FTs better but he's a pretty efficient scorer because he takes so many shots from the inside. And Harris signed his contract before the season started and was traded near the all-star break. NJ had nothing to do with the contract.

Rondo's numbers were up at the expense of his efficiency.  His playoff "breakout" performance totals were actually pretty poorous if you look at the larger individual statistical numbers. Rondo's Usage numbers skyrocketed over what they were during the regular season (nearly 30% higher!) while his eFG% of 43.0% is atrocious.

As far as Harris' contract....he signed with Dallas prior to the start of the season and the trade to New Jersey did not occur until the trade deadline the following February so the Nets played no factor in the contract he received.  It was a very fair deal as anyone who watched the Mavs would tell you......he was held back in the role he was asked to play however he always possessed the talent which is why he was invited to Team USA Select prior to signing his contract.
