I did the ACT on Saturday. One of the questions in the maths section was:

Q. Marquis is 40 years old and has lived in Boston for 12 years blah blah blah.

(I smiled when I saw this, but I was surprised when I went on Wikipedia at home and found that Daniels is 28 years old, meaning if he lives in Boston for 12 years he'll be 40!)

Then the very next question:

Q. Ray scored 45 points in a basketball game blah blah blah

Um okay...

I would have assumed that you didn't do well on your ACT so you talked to your teacher about the Celtics, he got all happy and cheery chatting about them, and the next day, you got good results. lol

not sure i understand this post. the ACT is a standardized test. a teacher doesn't grade it.

but i think the OP is awesome!! that would've made my day.

I assume this was an ACT prep course not the ACT itself which as you say is standardized and would not have Marquis Daniels references.

That's what's so crazy about it... it was the actual ACT, not just a lame Princeton Review joke!

Thanks. It's surprising that I was the only one of 300,000 seniors who took the test who is also on CB, given how fantastically absolutely amazing this blog is.

Or maybe I'm the only one obsessed/foolish enough to look out for these kinds of things instead of concentrating on a test that may determine my future...

As a math teacher, you deserve a TP for going home and checking Quisy's age and figuring out that it fit the problem.

Hope you did well on the test. Best of luck with college if that is in your plans.
“Being a Celtic is, every decision you make is about the team. Every cut you make is about the team. Every pass you make is about the team. You take yourself out of it. It’s not for everyone. If you don’t want to win, don’t want to play team basketball, and it’s more about you then you’re probably not a Celtic." Doc 2010

Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

What I find interesting about this is we now know that they must re-write those questions every summer.  There's no buried Quisy-in-Beantown references before a couple months ago.  I imigine they probably do that to minimize the risk of the questions getting stolen (don't have them sitting on a hard drive somewhere any longer than necessary).
