I plugged in Fête des Mères  to Yahoo or Goodsearch or something and it corrected me with Fetes de Meres which is apparently Mother's day in France.  Sounds like party of mothers if my French doesn't fail me

Personally I voted for Thanksgiving (and I'm not even a fan of the food!).

It's more of the holiday atmosphere, getting together with the family, and all that good stuff.

It has the perfect placement I think.  You got Halloween, usually some fun and a party/celebration at school/work so that's always fun (but no day off), then right around the corner is Thanksgiving (which usually gets us a minimum of 2 days off, some a week).  That's a big celebration with family and friends, and usually a party at work/school too.  But the beauty of Thanksgiving is you still have Christmas/New Years right around the corner, so when you're done with Thanksgiving you get to stay on your little holiday high.  Whereas after Christmas/New Years, it's back to school/work with no major holidays to look forward too.

That crash after New Years is tough in my opinion, but you're still on your way up after Thanksgiving.  That's why I like Thanksgiving so much.

Also I think Thanksgiving has a better family atmosphere than Christmas, because Thanksgiving you just get together to eat and nobody is wanting/expecting gifts, so you just get together and spend time together, but Christmas everyone is expecting things and if you have younger people in your family they often want to play with their new toys or whatever, while the family atmosphere is still there, the gifts detract a little from it IMO.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

I think Christmas is too stressful and has been stolen by secularism and commercialism. It bothers me.

Ok. Who picked Fête des Mères? Who is trying to irk me?  I'll know it's you the second you say you picked Obama Day or Brett Farve Day. Just admit it.

TP for a good theory...

xmas.  love the "feeling" and spirit of it.  love the decorations, preparations, being with family, joy of finding the right gifts for people.  then, when ur a parent, seeing the joy of xmas thru ur child's eyes brings it to another level!

I vote for Columbus Day because there's nothing quite like a long weekend, just for New England foliage. The weather's nearly perfect, on that cusp of mid-to-late Autumn, usually in the higher 50s/low 60s, even up in Maine and Vermont. No one else in the country can claim a holiday, specific for their own regional climate, except for perhaps North Pole Alaska, during Christmas.

Christmas, without a doubt ... nothing comes close. Followed by Easter, Thanksgiving, the 4th of July, Halloween, and New Year's. Just like to take this opportunity to say that it's a tragedy this country still does not have a National Holiday for Native Americans ... if you think so, too, please check this out:
