Said it once and I'll say it twice, if at the end of the night Rondo has taken the most shots on the team, you can go ahead and chalk up the L.

Eh...  I wouldn't worry too much about the loss tonight.  Rondo played well, as did the offense in general.  We lost tonight because 1) we relied heavily on our bench, and 2) the defense was weak.  I don't think that the outcome would have been any different if Paul Pierce led the team in scoring.

Rondo shot above 50% and also involved his teammates, with 7 assists.  The Celtics outscored the Knicks when he was on the floor.  I think that there will be plenty of nights where Rondo has his offense going, and the team plays extremely well.

Really? No offense to the OP, but can we wait til we at least lose a regular season game or two before we break out the OMG OMENS OF DOOM! threads?  Other than an injury, I don't think anything that happens in a preseason game is cause for alarm.

EDIT: Also, he tied for shots taken in this important game, and this one, and led the team in this one and we did ok.  In 4 of our 7 playoff wins, Rondo led or co-led the team in FGA.

PS is it too obvious I just figured out how to link within text?  ;)

Heh, I've just learned to let topics like these go. I mean, I'd like to think if Pierce and Garnett are only getting 24-25 minutes for the entire game, we're in trouble too, but hey, why be realistic? It's much more fun to blame Rondo, right?!

Oh yeah, did I forget to mention it was a preseason game?

Don't agree with this at all ... Rondo being top scorer demonstrates that he is attacking the basket more, or getting his jump-shot going, which has been one of the essential weaknesses of this team. The fact that he was top scorer tonight is a great sign, and I guarantee you that if Rondo is scoring more on a regular basis, so will the other players. You failed to mention that 5 other players were in double-figures tonight, and the main reason for that was Rajon's aggressiveness in the paint.

Despite the fact that we lost the game, (mainly because that was not Doc's priority), I feel better about this team than I have to this point, and it's precisely for the reason that Rondo did more of what he hasn't done up to this point. Rondo being top scorer is not a negative sign at all, it's a positive one, and if you could ask anyone on the team that same question, they would answer the same. I'm loving what I saw tonight offensively, (until the last few minutes, that is), though the defense was lax.

To compliment what Bahku said, if Rondo being our leading scorer/taking the most shots translates into the Celtics scoring 103 points, then let Rondo do that every night, by all means. Tack on 7 assists and 9-14 from the field...like I said, why be realistic when it's easier to just put the blame on Rondo, right?
The only reason the Celtics lost is because they somehow allowed 108 points in the process.

This is just a hunch, but Rondo taking 4 or 5 less shots won't make our defense better. Sorry, OP.

TP4U Bahku for saving me the time time write almost the exact same thing. I see Rondo leading this team in scoring a lot this year and it will be no coincidence when we win the championship while he is doing just that.

Said it once and I'll say it twice, if someone overreacts to meaningless preseason games, you can chalk them up as a L(oser).

I almost think it's opposite- we are at our best when Rondo is in attack mode.

I could see this team's top 8 players all averaging in the low double digits for scoring.  I also expect Rondo to play more minutes than anyone else.

I could also see this team having 4 10-10 players.  (Sheed, Wallace and Perk in rebounds, Rondo with assists.)

If Rondo's got to score to keep defenses honest, and he thus ends up our high scorer with a 13ppg average, that's okay with me.  (Though I doubt that'll be the outcome.)

"Our" and "we" in the name of the thread?!?! I know people do it all the time, but as Keyshawn would say, "C'Mon Man!"

"Rondo" and "Top Scorer" used in the same sentence? Channeling Lee Corso, "Not So Fast", C'Mon Man spend more than 10 seconds on your thread titles!

Rondo will be our best player this year. The big 3 and Sheed can't match his energy.
