Adande, Jemele, Sheridan, and Thrope has us at the top of the conference. The rest, just suck.

I'm glad. Most of the ones who did not pick the Celts only did because of "KG health issues", which so far in the pre-season, granted it's a small sample-size, seems pretty good to me.

They'll be singing a different tune in a month. Hell, after the opening night game.

Here's how six league scouts see things working out:  http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/ian_thomsen/10/19/scouts.picks/index.html

Conference finals

Here are all six of their predictions for the Eastern finals:

Cleveland beats Boston
Cleveland beats Boston
Cleveland beats Boston
Boston beats Cleveland
Boston beats Cleveland
Boston beats Orlando

NBA Finals

Now it gets interesting:

Lakers beat Boston
Lakers beat Cleveland
Cleveland beats Lakers
Cleveland beats Lakers
Boston beats Lakers
San Antonio beats Boston

All six scouts have us in the ECF, with three thinking we make the Finals, and one giving us the title.

Also we know the predictions hold no weight, but Eric Snow has us to take it all as well.

It is hard to be neutral when you are a fan but my take on this is that we were 28-5 at the end of December last year (I think) and the team that we start the year with will be better.  With Wallace, Daniels (major bench upgrades) and improvement in Perk and Rondo (hopefully), I see no debating we are better.

I like what Cle has done too.  I think Shaq will make their starters a little better but with Z, Moon, and West now on the bench, their bench is better too.

I don't know what happened to Cle against Orl in the playoffs but I think Orl is a safely distant 3rd in this race.

I think it may be an epic ECF between Bos and Cle but I see another Bos LAL finals.  Cle has enough chinks or flaws to be exploited I think.  The Lakers with Artest are scary.  The only way we beat them is if Rondo really has learned to shoot as Artest will shut down Pierce for the most part.  I don't see Bynum playing a whole year but that may not matter with Odom on the bench.  We are deeper I think but they are scarier now 1-6.

can't really complain about those ratings, with Clev, Bos, and Orl falling between 1.7 and 2.2. That is pretty tight.

Basically, it is up in the air as far as 'experts' go.

Which is pretty much how I see it at this point.

I think it will be Boston vs the Lakers in the finals, and its a tossup as to which team wins.

I do not see Shaq inproving Cleveland at all, unless they can trade Z's expiring deal for a good small forward and some bench strength, e.g. Ilgauskas for Stephen Jackson and filler.  But why would Nelson do that?  Ilgauskas is a terrible, terrible fit for his offense.   Z for Nocioni and the injured Francisco Garcia makes a little more sense, but not much.

Cleveland's other problem is the D. West may have limited or no utility until he gets his head straight.  He was a key player for them last year.

To beat the Cavs, your big men simply have to beat Shaq down the floor. That is a task that is becoming easier and easier with each passing year.

The team I see really rising in the East is Chicago.  They are learning to play together, plus they have Deng back.  IMHO they won't miss Gordon at all.  I wouldn't be surprised to see a Boston Chicago ECF.

In the West, the addition of RJ is too little, too late for the Spurs.  They still don't have the horses to challenge the Lakers, who will be scary good if Artest works out.

Unless Deng gets back to where he was nearly three years ago Chicago is going to struggle mightily.

After my first post, I got to thinking a little more about Orl.  They will probably start:

Nelson
Carter
Lewis
Bass
Howard

Not bad, but PF is the soft spot.  With this we have Pierce trying to cover Lewis and the other way around.  They could also start Pietrus and keep Lewis at PF.  Any thoughts on how they will play this?

Either way, a healthy Nelson may be the key.

I think they'd keep going with Rashard at the 4 against the C's. He's had a lot of success against KG recently.

You mean, like in the playoffs last year?  Derrick Rose is the real deal, and they have a bench.  They do not need Deng to score a bundle.  But they do need him to play defense.

As for Orlando, replacing Turkoglu with Vince Carter is taking a giant step back.  It will be 25-30 games before the recriminations start, but start they will, and Stan Van Gundy is going to take the blame.

They're going to miss Ben Gordon's efficient shooting more than you think. He does only one thing on the court for you, but he does it well.
