The arguments have been re-hashed time and time again about whether extending Rondo is a good idea.  Now, it's prediction time:  will he or won't he sign?

I'm going to predict that the sides can't agree to a contract, and Rondo will enter restricted free agency next summer (at which point he will sign a long-term deal with the Celts.)  However, I certainly hope they're able to work out a deal this summer, to 1) minimize distractions and 2) give the team more cost certainty.

I don't see it happening. Rondo wants to max his 2nd contract out and will not get it here unless he has another team raise the price by bidding. That will happen next summer as teams with cap money and no Lebron, Wade or Bosh make offers.

Also going to vote "No" here.

Wouldn't be surprised if things got a bit ugly down the road with negotiations.

Nope, he will play out there year, and his performance will determine whether he gets a near-max deal, or if he is sign and traded.  He still has way too much to prove to get the money that he likely feels he deserves based on his talent, so it makes sense for both parties to wait.

I really think that all of those trade talks were to gauge Rondo's value in the league and what other teams think he's worth. Then use that in the meetings regarding Rondo's next contract.

#2 is one of the key reasons why i feel the team WON'T extend him this month.  The organization would not be wise to create certain cost with the uncertain economy, the  uncertainty surround the CBA which is set to expire at the end of next season as well as the uncertain direction of our franchise moving forward without "The Big Three."

One thing Wyc & Co. have been consistent with is controlling expenses without having a logjam of long-term contracts on its roster.  When the current CBA expires we will only have two expiring contracts on our books (Garnett and Sheed)......this creates a tremendous amount of flexibility from a business perspective.

Different players, different situations, but Perk was certainly smart to take the moderate, confirmed money when he did--instead of panicking beyond imagine with every shoulder nudge.

I'm not sure about this.  I think that, even with his dislocated shoulder, Perk has proven to be worth more than roughly $4.5 million per year.  With a more catastrophic injury, Perk would be glad to have the guaranteed money, but at present I wonder if he regrets the deal a little.

He very well might but at the time he signed it he had no offensive moves and was picking up fouls for little more than breathing.  He's well worth double his current contract when it expires.

I don't see him signing -- mostly due to Danny wanting to see how Rondo plays this year.

I haven't seen Rondo improve enough this preseason to justify the $10 mill/year that was suggested this summer.  Right now Rondo's best leverage for a quick and pricey contract deal is to get Danny thinking that there's a lot of teams with cap room next year that won't get Bron/Wade/Bosh and would consider Rondo a decent consolation prize.  Certainly one that could be the center of a moderate bidding war that could cost the C's dearly--either in terms of a matching contract or letting him walk for nothing.

Maybe a little, but I'm not sure his value would have been much higher when he'd have come up. It certainly is much much higher now though!

The answer is no, because IMHO Rondo would be dumb to sign now.  If he has a good year, his value goes up even more.

I think it would have been much higher, because I feel as though it was higher at the time.  Perk took a home town discount.  While I'm certainly glad he did, he's been massively underpaid this entire contract, compared to what bums like Mikki Moore, Sam Dalembert, and numerous others are making.
