Quote
A reputed gangbanger convicted a decade ago of pummeling Celtics [team stats] swingman Paul Pierce [stats] was netted by cops again yesterday as part of a major cocaine-peddling sweep in the city.

Trevor Watson, 43, was among 15 alleged members of the Magnolia Steelers corralled in a roundup by Boston police working with state police, U.S. Marshals and the attorney general’s office.

Watson pleaded not guilty to trafficking cocaine and posted $5,000 bail yesterday. . . .

Pierce was stabbed in Sept. 25, 2000, when he was jumped by a mob at a fashion-party blowout at the Buzz club on Stuart Street. Watson was convicted of assault in that case.

Link.

It's good that the guy may be back behind bars, but seriously, $5,000 bail for dealing cocaine?

Cocaine is a hell of a drug!

$5,000 bail is pretty cheap for trafficking.

They probably wanted to set it at a realistic rate so they would get the money.

$5K bail for trafficking by a repeat offender?!? This is just one more example of some of the absurd leniency shown by some judges, (usually liberal), that has become a plague to our justice system. This is shameful.

What would bail normally be? I thought that sounded about right to me, not sure exactly how much he was trafficking nor do I know much about the topic anyway. Hopefully this guy will face some harsher penalties

If you would have read the artical you would have seen that the others charged got 50,000 75,000 and 10,000 doller bail. Maybe the defendand did something to help himself out or maybe the case wasn't as strong against this defenand.

Also most poor people think 5 grand is alot of money. Sorry but for you to say a judge who set a 5 grand bail for a coke charge is a more likely to be a Liberal is just shamful.

"Usually Liberal"
Hmmm Lets see over the last 28 years this country has had 20 years of Rightwing Presidents Regan and 2 Bushes and 8 years of the 1 Dem. (Clinton). So please explain to us who is more responsible for our nations decline again.

Call me a Crazy Liberal but I would say the party that has had more years at the wheel should take most of the blame.

We're not talking about Presidents OR politics here, or even our "nation's decline", (which is not the fault of ANY one party or group), and the fact remains that the judicial record with leniency for repeat offenders, especially child molesters, shows that liberal judges are far more likely to give small sentences and lower bonds ... I wish I could say otherwise, but this is a very low bail for such an offense, and the amount of bail should not be predelicted on the financial status of the defendant, but rather the CRIME they commit and their previous criminal background. (I READ the article, by the way, and don't take kindly to the assumption I would make statement on something I HADN'T read ... I would not presume to make the same assumption of you, and appreciate getting the benefit of the doubt, as I always give the same to others).

The problem is he was "trafficking", not just "holding" ... and a repeat offender ... would you feel the same if the one he had been selling to was a child member of your family? And if you'll read my post again, you'll see I was talking about liberal in the sense of lenient judges, NOT politics.

To tell the truth I wish I was the one he was selling to. As I am poor and 28 grams of coke would get me enough heating oil that I could keep warm all winter and still by presents for my kids. Since I live in a nation that is bankrupt and jobless. because of the previous presidental leaders. But I am done as it's cold and I am tired and could really care less what some drug dealers bail is. Even if he did stab Pierce.
