muscle weighs 3x more than fat.

Here's a visual:

Well, technically, it is impossible for muscle to "weigh" more than fat, the correct characterization is that muscle is denser than fat.

Kind of like the joke of which will hit the ground first if dropped from the top of a building, 1 ton of feathers, or 1 ton of rocks.  The answer of course is that they will hit at the same time.  Although it may take a heck of a lot more feathers to equal 1 ton than it will rocks, if they weigh the same, they will fall at the same rate.

::) We all knew what DL meant and the picture backed him up  ;)

I hear you though, "what weighs more a ton of feathers or a ton of bricks" :D

Can we change this question to, "what weighs more - a ton of Michael Sweetney or a ton of bricks?"

Oddly, a ton of gold DOES weigh more than a ton of feathers, because gold is measured in Troy ounces, which are about 10% heavier than standard ounces.  Used to love stumping people with that in elementary school.

Well, in a vacuum tube, even a single feather and a huge rock will land at the same time.

In ambient conditions, however, the ton of rocks will hit first as the sheering forces, a function of surface square footage (plus materials), on the falling feathers, will be higher thus giving it more upward buoyancy.

I didn't really see the 12 pounds either.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I am not sure what the point is? Rondo has a listed playing weight. We know the team always reports weights and heights a little differently than our 'reality'. I mean, who really measures themselves in shoes? He claims(?) to be 12 lbs heavier and stronger due to offseason workouts......okay, I see a guy who is in great shape and came into camp ready to play.

I am ready to take his word for the 12 lbs if it means anything. I dont think it is as relevant at this point as the obvious conditioning improvement by Big Baby Davis. That will have a much bigger impact on the team overall this season. Just my opinion.. ;)

Rondo definitely looked more muscular in his upper body - particularly his shoulders.  No doubt about that.

I had a harder time seeing the weight loss in Glen Davis.

Kevin looked good to me.

Perk looked even more trimmed, which I think I actually like.

Mike Sweetney is defintely top 5 at filling a jersey.

Weight/mass does NOT affect the effects of gravity. Not a good example. Gravity on earth is 9.8 m/(sec * sec). Air resistance will make feathers fall slower though.

Rondo's upper body looks substantially bigger to me. I don't know if it's 12 lbs though but he's lost that scrawny look.

Big Baby look like he lost some weight from last season but he seems bigger than he did over the summer.

I don't know how much weight he lost but Perk looks amazing and he's moving great. I couldn't imagine him becoming more intimidating in the paint but looks like he'll manage that this season.

Glen Davis definitely looks more mobile. I have no idea whether he lost weight, but I think his body is sufficiently more toned now.

Although they won't because of air resistance. Feathers have a different surface area, too.

I am certainly no physics expert and while it kind of looks as if you need to be on Celtics blog I dont think that a ton of bricks and a ton of feathers fall at the same rate of speed. They would just hit the ground at the same time although they may fall at different rates of speed throughout their journey. It's possible I am wrong about that though.

Rondo is the exact same size as last year. Exact. Where is that mysterious 12lbs of muscle and the improved shot?

Rondo only took one or two jumpshots in the game. It was clear to me that his elbow was pulled in throughout the motion, opposed to flairing out like it was previously when he shot. Honestly his shot looked good to me. Sure those shots happened not to fall, but we can't say he's a better/poor shooter based on one game, and two shots.

His game overall was sub-par, but his mechanics get a B from me(F before).

yep, they would fall at the exact same time only in vacuum

It's perfectly correct to say that muscle weighs more than fat.  Saying it is more dense is the same thing.

The same volume of muscle weighs more than the same volume of fat.

Of course 5lbs of muscle weighs the same as 5lbs of fat...
God bless and good night!
