Not a huge amount here, other than what Jerry's looking for in a potential team. Can someone tell me why he's not signed by the Cs for the minimum? He certainly must be more valuable than Lester or Giddens, and though he's not a great defender, he'd likely respond in Boston with better than usual defense (ala Ray). And like Marquis he's a good ball handler to have on the second unit so Eddie can concentrate on running off screens.

Am I crazy?

I wouldn't mind having Stack around, but he's a 10th man on this squad, maybe 10 MPG.  They're big on Daniels, who fills a couple of needs for this team.   Marquis will be getting 20-25 MPG, Eddie House probably the same, that doesn't leave a lot of extra playing time for someone like Stack if we assume that Rondo, Ray, and Paul are all averaging about 32MPG.

But, a savvy veteran player who can put the ball in the hole?  If he's healthy - and that's still a question mark - can't see how bringing him in would be a bad thing.  Depends, I suppose, on whether they see enough from Hudson to want to keep him around for a year.

Honestly, unless he looks great in workouts, I don't see much reason to give Stackhouse a contract right now.  I would rather see how Walker and Giddens play the first month or two of the season, and see who else shakes free.  Based on his recent play, I just don't know if Stackhouse could even see the floor for this team, so I would rather give the younger legs a chance, and wait until late season to look at veterans if we still need one.

at the least if walker and/or giddens shows anything they can be part of a trade or actually contribute this season and beyond
giddens contract is going to be valuable to us imo in bringing a sf to the team
stackhouse would be good but with daniels, house and ray allen of course there really isn't a spot for him, especially if mr x tony allen shows anything or hudson can put it in at nba level

sekou is a very good NBA writer, and he sure made it sound like stack can still ball.

i don't want to give him minutes right away, or necessarily any steady minutes at all, but he's a much better insurance policy than giddens and could be a great situational match up problem for opposing teams.

if we like what lester brings to the table, just cut giddens -- stackhouse's contract can be used instead of his in a trade if we need it.

If Giddens gets some serious minutes in the pre-season and Danny decides come Halloween that we are not keeping him, then why not Stackhouse?  With Walker's knee situation I think he's as good as any in terms of insurance that we can afford.

If they DO make a move on Stack, I'd rather they did it in November or December, rather than wait until around the trade deadline.  Seems to take these guys a while to get comfortable in the offense, hate to sign someone and they're not really back in game shape until the playoffs are already upon us.

Depends on Hudson and Giddens, though, best-case is one of those guys shows that they're ready for a larger role than projected.

One thing that has not yet been mentioned is that even though everyone seems to love Daniels, he *does* have a history of getting hurt.  He's only played about sixty games a year, and has only once played more than 62.  Stack can't fill Daniel's role exactly, but kinda like Ray Allen, he's got enough handle to get the ball over halfcourt.

I agree with Chris. He was pretty bad in Dallas towards the end, I mean, he was airballing corner three's every time I watched a Mavs game. I think we should give the team as currently constructed a chance to prove iteslf before we try to plug up holes that we perceive to be there, but may not be. TP Chris.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

I bet he ends up with the Spurs, they seem to love scorers on the verge of retiring veterans (glenn robinson, dominique wilkens come to mind). I also think the Spurs have a real shot at the title.

Unless they make a trade to open up roster spots, I would just prefer that they kept it open until someone with a little more left in the tank became available.  Because I promise you, someone will.

If the C's had a couple open roster spots, then I would be all for taking a flyer on him, but since they don't, I think it would just be a waste of cash.

We have an open roster spot, unless Hudson has already made the team. And if Stack doesn't work out, cut him. If he does and we want to pick up someone else, cut Giddens. If they both do, cut TA. If all three do, cut Scal. If all four do, cut Walker. You see my point....

Each for their own reasons, Hudson, Giddens, TA and Walker are all questionable / marginal NBA players right now. What that means is -- behind one injury prone back-up in Daniels -- we have no reliable wing players on the bench.

I would trade Stackhouse for Giddens every day of the week and twice on Sunday. He was a mistaken pick, it's time to admit it and move on. Too much of our bench is being taken up by 'projects' (read: bad players). Stack is a better project than a guy who will never be good.

On the wings, they've already got Ginoboli, Jefferson, Roger Mason, Michael Finley's corpse, and now Keith Bogans.  He's be as much of a luxury in San Antonio as he would be here.  Stack *could* end up either in SA or here, but he wouldn't be getting a lot of court time either place.

sounds like he'd rather play for a contender than just go somewhere for more minutes. he would not play a lot in Boston, but there are certainly minutes to be had if he performs. he'd be the 10th man. the 10th man plays in doc's rotation.
