No Thomas didn't make the right play.
He slowed up too much, didn't barehand it and took to many steps to throw.
Look I'm not being critical of the guy I'm just saying when it is the last play of the game you go out blastin', not taking any shorts.   You go out full throttle.
Sprinting and barehanding would be full throttle.   And I would have loved Thomas if he made that effort.   If someone could just agree with me on that I will take my afternoon nap as "the luckiest man on the face of the earth!!"

And how do they get away with that Chewbacca stuff anyway.
If I did that I would be "Joe Jacksoned" 1919 style, in less time it took Thomas to get that ball out of his glove!!

No one is going to agree with you.  He made the best possible play he could have made.

Sorry, that play was rather lackluster for a season ending play.

If Jackson sprinted in, and tried to bare-hand it, and then fumbled it, or caught a bad hop, he would be absolutely massacred.

Anyway, pretty exciting game, huh?  You don't see a team score in extra innings, only to have another team in the bottom of the inning to tie it again.

Was Inge hit by that pitch?  Does Detroit have a right to complain?

Agree, Very exciting game.  I was lucky enough to turn it on in the 9th inning.  some great late game moved by both managers I think.  Good to see some strategery involved.  Either way, both teams are getting run over by the yanks.

I was listening on XM at that point to the Minnesota broadcast.  They said something along the lines of "It did appear to brush him, but I think the ump made the right call.  You'd hate to see the umpires decide the game at this point."

Gets back to the Serena Williams argument.  Do you make the right call at the wrong time?

(oh and by the way, don't punch me in the head, I'm taking a lunch break - I swear!)
Yup

I really have a feeling Minnesota may steal the game tonight.  They still have the adrenaline going from last night, and EVERYONE is convinced they have no shot.  I could really see them stepping it up.  What is going to be tough though is to then keep it up for the rest of the series, as the adrenaline wears off.

Who is the guy going against CC tonight, I have never heard of him.  Its really gonna be the story of the playoffs for me to see how CC plays.  see if he continues his playoff collapse history.

Thomas didn't charge the ball hard enough.  You can see it in the replay. He ran after it like it was the 3rd inning in a game in mid-May.  Guarantee you if Shane Victorino is in that same exact position you will see what I am talking about.   That guy tries his hardest down to the last out.   Same thing with Orlando Cabrera.  Those guys are tough, they don't just go through the motions.   They have a sense of urgency in their game and they don't go down without a fight.  There is no sense of urgency in that play by Thomas. If he sprinted in and fumbled the ball he wouldn't have been massacred because as you can see the routine way to make that play wouldn't have worked either.

yea, ESPN had a slow motion vid, he's clearly hit (or at least his jersey is)

I don't know though, i feel for tigers fans, and they have an absolute gripe (if you see the replay, there is no question it tagged his jersey.) but i would have hated to see them end the game like that.
